US soldiers fined for fighting with Thai men who allegedly tried to aggressively sell them watches at Pattaya bar

Six American soldiers, who local media reported were attending the multinational Cobra Gold military exercise in Thailand, were fined for fighting with two Thai men outside a bar in Pattaya on Saturday afternoon.

 

This one-minute clip, which has over half a million views, shows a foreigner and two Thai men shoving each other while others try to separate them. It was reported that the Thai men persistently tried to sell counterfeit watches to the soldiers who were drinking at a bar, but they weren’t interested. For unknown reasons, a fight broke out between them and they took it out in the street.

 

 

Officers quickly intervened as the incident happened near the Pattaya police station. Pol. Lt. Pathompong Kanpisut told Coconuts that the Thai men threw the first punch.

A fine to the farang and the Thai perpetrators walk off scot free?, At least get them to give him a free watch ?

We have all had our share of problems with these guys selling fake watches , the best way i found was just say no thanks and just look away and ignore them . If one got a bit nasty all i had to do was stand up at 188cm tall and weighing 110 kgs  they would always walk away . 

...The Thai men were fined THB5,000 each because they started the fight, while the soldiers had to pay THB1,000 each. All of them were released....

Now this is fake news for sure. There are so many Thai guys in this cannot even find the American or Americans they are fighting.

watch it again and you will see the yank soldiers. not great camera angle but they are there and did a good job against those watch sellers. maybe the watch sellers thought everyone would jump in to help them but not this time. jolly good

The next time they were in town the Americans wouldn't be taking any sh*t off no watch sellers ..

You are right about soldiers being there but the part I found fake was the article stating it was 6 soldiers and 2 thai's All you can see most of the time is thai guys not 2

I want to say to the us soldiers '' thanks for your service''...im sure you deserve some r&r...

What about the fake watches?   Were they taken away from the Thai vendors?   Or is that a different story for another day.  Maybe they were sold to someone high in the government.

6 US soldiers vs 2 Thai watch sellers and some of the soldiers ran away?

 

 

 

 

It's going to end up to doomsday in Thailand,  if "honest retail businessmen"  start to attack tourists  on the streets !!....

 

What a disastrous image really !!! ..

 

The authorities should make an example and round up a few of these crooks and let them simmer a bit in jail....if not,  it's really going to hurt tourism,  if these hawker gangs are left unattended !!!!!

For all the Thailand bashers on here,  I believe the police did a good job with the fines.  5,000 for the watch sellers & 1,000 for the soldiers.

The guy who could have easily defused a tense political situation if only he were willing to lose a little bit of face and claim they're all fakes he's wearing?  That guy high up in gov't?

While I agree with that assessment, their job isn't really complete until they confiscate the illegal wares.  Otherwise, it's just a cost of doing an illegal business.

 

Thailand's either a member of the world community that honors its treaty obligations- including protection of IP, or it's not.

According to the article, there were 6 American soldiers and 2 Thais. Why would the Thais need help?

I would imagine that the soldiers are under strict orders about their conduct while on leave in Pattaya. They are normally very social and polite but sometimes sh1t happens.

 

Even though they were fined 1,000 baht, I am pretty sure they will be done again when they get back to their barracks by their own.

 

At least that used to be the way the British forces worked, your fault or not.

6 american soldiers, who had been drinking, fist-fighting two thais; who would you bet on ? thais got lucky the police intervened

I also wouldn't move a bit, in Pattaya you can expect anything to happen...it's not exactly Monaco or so.

 

And the faux watch vendors are protected by youknowwho or how else can they be allowed to walk in restaurants to annoy customers with faux watches?
