WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump spoke in separate phone calls on Thursday with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the leaders "shared their serious concerns" over Russian President Vladimir Putin's comments on his country's nuclear weapons, the White House said on Friday.

Trump also discussed the civil war in Syria with Macron and Merkel and they agreed the Syrian government, Iran and Russia should implement an immediate ceasefire, the White House statement said.

is it possible for macron and merkel to discuss this issue with putin ?  i doubt trump is going to do anything on the topic (he's dealing with a quite a few issues right now !!!).

Doesn't help much. Putin is too busy to show how big button he has to his people.

He would probably want the sanctions to be dropped, which are not going to be dropped before Russia ends the war it initiated in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

Why is Putin making these statements now? He must be planning on taking over a country or portion of a country, in the very near future. Maybe going to invade the Ukraine. He is crafty and has some reason to tell the world Russia can survive a nuclear war with  the USA.

Russia intervened in an issue somewhere in it's backyard, and later on the majority voted to be annexed by Russia, and some other world powers condemned this for which of course they had their own reasons.

I know a country that started wars in countries far from their bed, and get away with it.

If Putin was gearing up to take over another country, he wouldn't need to telegraph it - he would just do it.  He is crafty.  So much so that he helped his buddy win the US prez election.

The debilitation of the US is happening as we speak.  Putin doesn't need to send over nukes to knock the US to the ground.   Trump is doing it - far beyond what even Putin imagined.

The Russians, and other adversarial countries, will continue to interfere with US elections.  Top security officials in the US have said publicly that Trump isn't raising a finger to do anything about it.  The great US leader hasn't given any direction to anyone - to try to stop Russian interference.  As long as it's helping Republicans, Trump figures it's all fine.

Apologies Scott. I pulled the source off Yahoo News in good faith. Here are some mainstream sources confirming the news:

Trump "is" the issue.

He has always wanted the entire USSR restored. The break-up hurt the home team a lot.
