Pattaya proposes new rules to curb Jomtien litter

PATTAYA:--A batch of new regulations were proposed to help stem Jomtien’s litter problems.

 

Deputy Mayor Vichien Pongpanit met Feb. 26 with beach vendors, local business and city departments about the problem of overflowing garbage bins and litter, which continue to mar the environment in Jomtien.

 

City legal chief Sretapol Boonsawat suggested regulations that require beach chair operators and other vendors to end business by 6:30 p.m. nightly and then collect and bag garbage for collecting between 7-8 p.m.

 

Beach-area businesses likewise would be required to collect all rubbish in their area and prepare it for collection by 1 a.m. so it can be picked up by Pattaya trash trucks between 1-2 a.m. and 9-10 a.m.

 

Pattaya sanitation crews would then wash garbage cans and clean streets on Mondays and Thursdays.

 

The new rules would be enforceable with 2,000 baht fines for those found littering or contributing to overflowing trash bins.

The suggested regulations are to be sent to the city council for approval.

There is no problem other than the existing bins are not emptied enough. During high season and weekends the bins need to be emptied every couple of hours not once a day.

Especially when gardeners and businesses come by and empty all their items into the beach bins.

great idea and while you are at it, how about the music noise  blasting out from those idiot 4x 4 right next to the sign which says  NO NOISE,, BIG FINE  have we got any cops here in JOMTIEN that do their job, they just drive up and down beach road in their fancy cars with all the strobes flashing, next time why not park next to one of those blasting annoying music then we can have a proper disco lol

One good dumpster can replace 50 of those plastic bins, can't be stolen or tipped, won't disintegrate in the tropical sun, and can be emptied in 2 minutes by a properly equipped hydraulic truck. 

 

Time to get into the 20th century.  21st century where the dumpsters send out a signal to indicate they need attention may be wishful thinking...

The tour bus drivers park in residential areas and just dump their plastic plates anywhere and then take a dump. Too lazy to take their trash back to the 7-11 where they bought dinner. This bus problem needs control also. There are now vacant lots quickly filling with their debris and waste.

All the regulations in the land will not prevent a whole load of both ignorant and lazy people from trashing Jomtien, the Oceans, and every other place that is being trashed.

 

However, a constant and sustained program of heavy fines and possible imprisonment for Business,s found to be dumping waste, will.

Excellent idea but that requires "thinking"...something the Pattaya/Jomtien city administrators find impossible to do.

<deleted>...!!!....How about a 2,000b fine for the rubbish collectors for not emptying the bins.

 

So now we have the "Cig-Butt officers" patrolling the beaches.

How about giving a 30-day warning to owners of empty lots covered in trash to clean it up or a city crew will be sent out and the bill will be added to their annual property taxes. 

   That should provide steady work for more than a few locals.

No property tax? Then send a bill and if not paid within 6 months take title in court and sell it, the balance, minus cleanup and court costs, sent to the owner.

Doesn't bother me at all.  I realized what a dump the place was and left.  There's no ocean to swim in.  'Good' food is overpriced.  Everyone is greedy and corrupt.  Yep, let's complain about our choice on where we pucked to live.  Even beer is overpriced.  Most of the women aren't worth a second look.  Really found nothing great about living there.

Stupid city hall do you really think they care about come empty the bins contact soon finish na normally they come 9-10pm but not empty all bins but left the streets full of garbish OMG it smells and when  sanitation people come they are so lazy

Let me give you a better idea smart container there tell you when full and want be empty and they do smell try get some new trucks na and welcome to the 21 centuries 

Jomtien are a noisy smelling not law enforcement there work please do not call this a first class resort

So, are the business people supposed to work 24h, and pick up all the trash from their fellow citizens, that sit on the beach until day break, and leave all their Som tam garbage and whisky bottles scattered around? I think most know who the litterers are.

looks good on paper,but many of the trucks leak ,i find most of the litter left behind. is from the garbage truck staff who rush,and fail to clean up what they have dropped ...but then again ''a job I would not want''....hope it works out for you in jomtiem..

Thailand doesn't have a space program, war expenses or welfare handouts.  Go figure.
