How far should we live from a farm to reduce pesticide risk ?

Hi, I found this link in another post and it's an evidence that in Thailand also farmers get sick from pesticides, and you do not need to wait 20 years:

Do you have any idea about how far from a farm it is acceptable to live to avoid being poisoned by the chemicals ?

Far enough that you don’t work on it

Both High Volatile Esters (HVE) (ethyl, butyl and isobutyl esters) and Low Volatile Esters (LVE) (hexyl, octyl etc) can produce vapours after application under certain conditions, and can drift as an invisible vapour for many kilometres, damaging non-target crops and areas. 

 

More than 20km you should be ok.

Thank you, but maybe the risk is already reduced after few kms ?

 

It's hard to find a place without farm 20 kms around !

The risk is already reduced if you don't handle the chemicals, or stand in the fields while they're being sprayed.

Live in the city. More than 5km will be better than next door.
