I went for my weekly booze & fag run to Makro today. I was shocked to find my 3L box of Bodegas had increased from 599B to 899B. I declined but bought my usual carton of Play Off Red. I thought I'd be been short-changed but they've gone up by 20B.

 

I've heard nothing about this, even on the Thai news...

This increase happened some time ago although beer and spirits seem to have not been increased, wine has been though. Most wines  that were 299b have gone to 399b, the 2l bottle of Celebration from 439 to 799 for example. Strange one this as I get the impression that not many people drink wine here and even less will. If the GMT were looking to increase revenue this will not help, they have targeted the wrong products, still a few of the old price wines about if you look and if its a red then it should be no cause for concern

Yes they have priced poor quality wine mixed with fruit juice out of the ballpark......it’s just a silly thought to even consider it...

sad really, someone said they were protecting the Thai wine industry.

I love drinking wine, red wine in particular..that’s half the problem, 

fruit wine is not quite wine.....be like drinking ginger beer instead of beer

more like boosting the smuggling industry - who will make the money?  Really, really...after years of action to benefit the likes of Siam Wineries they cut their legs off.  What are they doing?

A single pack of Marlboro Red went from 125 baht to 165 baht at my local 7/11. The girl laughed when I gave her my best Thai impression of "Oh my GOT!"

Yes I was aware of that & even posted about it...and the big increase during Oct 17.

 

There's something strange going on with wine, or maybe just boxes of Bodegas which increased by 100B a couple of months ago, went back to the original price then increased by 300B last week.

 

Also, it's strange that the price increase has taken so long to filter through for a 'volume sales' place like Makro.

Thats £3.80 UK, in a UK supermarket they are £10.70 for 20
