Pattaya pickpocket nabbed after allegedly robbing tourist

By The Nation

A reportedly notorious pickpocket in Pattaya, who operated under the pretence of being a lollipop vendor, has been arrested for allegedly stealing from an Indian tourist.

Chang Chompu, 42, was taken into custody Friday morning after he had allegedly stolen a purse from the tourist at a beer-bar on Pattaya beach on Thursday night.

The purse contained US$600 (Bt18,720) and Bt2,000 in cash.

Deputy Pattaya police chief Pol Lt-Colonel Somphan Suksamran said the suspect had been preying on foreign tourists on Pattaya beach by pretending to sell lollipops.

He had recently been released from jail on a drugs charge.

My thoughts are...

Many of these petty criminals come from villages far away from Pattaya, they come to Pattaya looking for rich pickings so why not kick them out of town?

Send them back to their villages, Thais can not do much without their ID card, so take it off them for 3 to 6 months so they have to stay in their village.

Who did the arrest?  The tourist? A passing Ladyboy? A kindly taxi driver?  A harlot with a heart of gold?  It certainly could n't have been Pattaya Plod unless they had been made aware of the huge sum of dollars in the wallet.
