BANGKOK — An international animal rights organization said it would continue pressing for Thailand to drop an annual elephant polo event after convincing eight sponsors to pull their support.

Eight foreign multinationals have reportedly withdrawn their support for the King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament following the release of a video showing mahouts violently striking the elephants was published by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA.

the drumbeat continues; thais, in thin-skinned scenarios , predictably behave in a certain way;

then international quasi-oversight bodies note that behavior, publicize it  and 'things happen';

again and again,such behavior is only addressed due to these intl oversight bodies

Then they should push to end Polo on Horse too.

Horses have been domesticated by humans since 3,000 BC.

Elephants are wild animals.

So Polo (if done humanely) isn't in the same category as elephants.

We have just started a boycott of Johnny Walker here in Jomtien. I have sent Diageo (  the parent company ) notification of this and will be interested to see their comments. They promise a response to complaints within 48 hours.

Anyone want to join in ?

Go PETA! Nice to see PETA getting some :heart_001: for a change. They have done more for animals & animal rights than any other group and usually get a bad rap for perceived extremism. Most of which is concocted by Big Meat, Big Dairy and Big Pharma...then sensationalized by Big Media. And sometimes...

...extreme cruelty and extreme public ignorance requires extreme actions and educational awareness.

Go PETA! :thumbsup:
