A former electrical engineer at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) who was earlier convicted of committing a string of bomb attacks in Bangkok was today (March 23) sentenced to 26 years and six months by the Criminal Court for the bomb blast at a public phone booth in front Soi Rajvithi 24 in 2007.

The court said that the bomb that was found in the house of the defendant, Wattana Pummaret, and the remains of the bomb that was detonated at the public phone booth in front of Soi Rajvithi Soi 24 were identical to six other bombs which went off earlier in Bangkok.

The court ruled Wattana guilty and handed him 26 years and six months in jail.

Earlier, Wattana was found guilty on six bombing cases as follows:

-Illegal possession of explosives at his house in Bang Khen district: four years jailterm plus 975 baht fine;

-Bomb attack at Phramongkutklao hospital: 26 years and 12 months jailterm and 500 baht in fine;
