SURIN — Animal control departments on Monday admitted to dozens of mammals dying in Isaan for the past seven months due to a strain of avian flu – a day after a disease specialist chided them for concealing the information.

The Department of Livestock Development in Surin said it knew about dozens of small carnivorous mammals infected with bird flu in 10 Isan provinces since August – which led 15 of them to die. The acknowledgment came a day after an expert said avian flu in Thailand was not being publicized enough.

That is why all my Turkeys just die for no unknown reasons next time I mix Diatomaceous Earth into their food so it kills the Virus.

You are incorrect. It will not "kill" the virus.  If you had a sudden  mass die off, did you report to the livestock department? You are supposed to. If it was avian flu there were decontamination steps to follow. If it wasn't, you may have another pathogen or even contaminated feed or water to address.

I posted a comment on this on 22 September last year and other comments

Having worked with livestock in Thailand from 2001 I have seen cases of bird flu and cholera.

There was an article ( undated ) in a Phuket newspaper that mentioned the govt. stating caution for the coming winter, this could have been 2016 or 2017, impossible to be sure.

From my work here I know that vets will not report any cases of either, nor will farmers irrespective of farm size, nor will any govt. official.    Vets will often not even enter a farm that is expected of having either bird flu or cholera.

Bird flu has been in Vietnam for some time as well as other countries, it often spreads withe egrets or other water fowl.

One has to remember that bird flu affects not only chickens but also ducks, turkeys etc. and common bird species.

Farms would have to close and exports stop.
