Beach recommendations near to Bkk

Featured Replies

Good morning all, appreciate your thoughts based on the following. We are interested in taking our Thai family to the beach (they gave never been before and are farmers from Chiang Mai). We would be driving so criteria:

1) August visit so Easy coast preferable weatherwise.

2) Not too far from BKK

3) Prefer non touristy

4) Not too expensive.

We don't need to stay on the beach or beach town as we could drive in. 30mor do would be fine. Prefer to stay in a town where we have a market or food court perhaps and other facilities maybe rather than somewhere with limited options and drive to the beach or national park.

Been to Prachup Kiri Khan before and that's the furthest we would probably go. Read about Rayong and Pranburi are these possibilities, what are they like.

Any recommendations and thoughts would be most appreciated as well.as any suggested stop offs on the drive down from CM. Altogether we plan on a trip for about 5 days or so with an overnight stop on the way it down and return.

Have a look at Bangsaen, halfway between BKK and Pattaya. Its one of the closest beaches to BKK and and very popular with Thais, day trippers from BKK and 1st trip to the beach from issan etc. Busy during the weekend but quieter during the week.

Rayong city has a nice beach and usually very clean. We go there on Sundays for a picnic. You get the usual people selling assorted food on the beach or at street level there are food vendors. A nice hotel with a big pool can be had for 600 bt a night.

Dirty, getting overpriced. Go for Rayong/Sattahip.

I love to vacation on Koh Samet, in Rayong province.

Would agree. If you have Thai family and particularly kids, Bang Saen is a fairly good option, there are bikes for hire on the front and rubber rings in the water, no hordes of foreign tourists. The town has a shopping mall with food court and there is an aquarium nearby if you want something different, also a bit of a market on the promenade at the weekends and a large market nearby on the main road..

Plenty of good family accommodation in Bang Saen for short term rent. Friend of mine took the whole family down from the north, 7 adults and 4 children, and rented a 4 bed house for 2 nights.

Too far to drive not exactly near BKK is it ?

Pranburi is nice, not busy, most of the resorts have their own beach access (~3 hrs from BKK)

Koh Samet, easy to get to, but it does get busy, Bungalows at Samet Cabana are nice (Ao Wong Deuan)

(~2hrs to Bang Pae Pier from BKK + Boat across (have to leave your car at the Pier).

The West side of the Island is quieter, with Lima Coco resort on Ao Prao.

Koh Chang, lots of accommodation choice (~4.5 hrs from BKK, including car ferry)

Bang Saen, as mentioned above, beach sometimes has a lot of trash on it.

Cha-am - Hua Hin, lots of accommodation choice, especially on the strip between Cha-am and Hua Hin with plenty of resorts with their own beach access.
