Samoeng District kicks off strawberry day in Chiang Mai Province

Samoeng (สะเมิง) District kicked off strawberry day to promote the province's local fruit and tourism in Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่) Province.

Mr. Weeradej Samawan (วีระเดช สมวรรณ), Samoeng district-chief officer, said that Samoeng district carries a good reputation in cultivating large and sweet strawberries in Thailand. The strawberry festival will run from Feb 9th to Feb 11th at Samoeng district office. Many activities, including strawberry caravan, strawberry shop, strawberry pageant, and etc, will be exhibited in the fair.

Mr. Weeradej said that Samoeng has expanded strawberry plantation from 1,600 Rai to 2,000 Rai this year. He informed that he wants to encourage farmers to grow strawberry due to its high price, which is about 100-150 baht per kg.

In addition, strawberry can be processed into various kinds of food, such as wine and jam.
