HIV positive Thai prostitute had sex with “dozens of men”

 

 

A Thai woman who was arrested for working as a prostitute in Taiwan and who was also found to be HIV positive has been deported.

 

The woman, named only as Patty, 24, had been working as a prostitute in Taiwan's eastern county of Taitung, where she potentially infected dozens of men.

 

According to Taiwan News, she arrived on a visitor visa on March 11 and between March 13-22 had been soliciting customers for sex by using the Line messaging app.

 

During this time she allegedly had sex with dozens of men before being arrested. On April 2 she tested positive for HIV and has now been deported back to Thailand.

 

Taitung County Health Bureau is now advising any men who had sex with the woman to get tested for HIV.

 

The same report claims that Taitung city is increasingly being used by Southeast Asian prostitution rings who take advantage of its relaxed via policies and draw customers by using the Line app.

Although that was just when she got tested , she was probably HIV+ before then

After 20 beers they all look like Patty..........fuzzy features. If they don't show a clear photo, how will people know if they have had sex with her?

The article didn't say anything about unprotected sex.  

 

We don't know when she contracted HIV.

 

Transmission rates are not really possible to calculate- maybe no one was at risk or perhaps everyone was.

 

Fortunately for most it is not like catching a cold.

I hope she gets counselling and  support. My fear  is that she may joint the other serro positive sex workers in Bangkok, Pattaya, Patong.

Its a bit harsh for her , probably got tested against her will and then having the results spread in the media .

No one forced the men to have unprotected sex with a prostitute.

Dozens of men in just 10 days?

1. She may have been having protected sex - in which case HIV could only be transmitted orally. So, yes going down on your favourite bar girl is risky ! Especially if you have an ulcer or bleeding gums.

2. Even if she has HIV it does not mean she is contagious - if her viral load is undetectable and she is on retro-virals then there is a zero rate transmission. 

3. Story makes no mention if she caught it there after starting work there or if she knew she had it anyway. It may have come as a shock to her too remember.

4. Whilst unpleasant. Nobody often dies from HIV related illnesses these days if they are on drugs and will live a full life. The worry should not be HIV that you could live with. the issue is more uncureable and untreatable ghonorea these days along with other illnesses like herpes, etc.

Sugar coat it, but the safe bet is she was taking shots where the sun doesn't shine and got the big HIV.

The risk of contraction is generally small even with unprotected sex (it is variable though).  This combined with condom use reduces risk to near zero.  Condoms can break however.  If this does happen you are advised to wash immediately and have a pee if possible.

It’s fairly difficult to catch HIV from heterosexual vaginal sex (if you are a healthy man down below) in the first place. With a condon, if used correctly and consistently, the chances fall even lower. 

 

Use a rubber correctly then you are pretty much safe.

   Doesnt sound very high, BUT , 1 person would catch it out of 50 .

Every 50 customers , 1 would get HIV

Your treatment advice is amazing.  

It's sound initial advice- honestly.  The virus is weak.  You are washing and flushing.  Of course, if you are still concerned then go have a test to put your mind at rest.

 

What we can generally say is the risk is very small.  Most likely the girl won't have hiv anyway, and the risk of contraction is small from a one off encounter (it is variable though).
