Speeding car kills roadside vendor

By The Nation

A speeding car crashed into a roadside stall in Pathum Thani province on Friday afternoon, killing the vendor.

Police said the accident happened at 3pm on the western ring road in Tambon Khu Luang, Lard Lum Kaew district.

Sompong Pirason, 32, the vendor who was selling roti saimai (Thai cotton candy in burrito pancake), died at the scene.

The car driver, Panupong Thasa, 33, and his passenger, Anyamanee Senapithak, 26, were injured.

The driver claimed his car’s braking system malfunctioned.

But another driver who witnessed the accident, Phairat Rojanawat, 51, told police that he had seen the car speeding and swerving to the left and right, trying to overtake other vehicles before the crash.

The victim’s mother, Amporn Rodpong 64, told police that her daughter normally sold on the other side of the road but she decided to switch to the opposite side, hoping to make money from motorists leaving Bangkok for Songkran holidays.

Is it possible that the car's onboard computer can highlight this and show the driver up for the lying murderer he is?

A pretty good chance, I get a nice printout of my driving style and where I can improve (invariably too heavy with my right foot) whenever the beast gets serviced (Isuzu Mu-X).

Whether this option will ever be taken up is debatable.

If the truth was told, the driver more than likely was using the shoulder of the road to undertake (And probably at speed).  See this all too often, as soon as the main lanes start slowing down a bit there are always lines of vehicles eager to make use of the shoulder(s) to pass.  Should be charged with manslaughter at the least.

if you have not seen the clip,he undertook at very fast speed then went back to the outside lane where he lost control went into a spin and took out the vendor on the left.
