The prime minister has ordered security officials to monitor the situation in Syria closely after the US-led bombings.

National Security Council secretary-general Gen Wallop Raksanoh said after Syria bombings by the US, Britain and France, the prime minister has ordered security officials to monitor and assess  the situation closely, as Thailand is a member of the  United Nations.

If the conflict deteriorates and prompts the UN to call  an emergency meeting, or upon request by member country for urgent  meeting, Thailand needs to comply with under international laws, he said.

.

"He said Thailand insisted on calling all disputed countries  to restrain from the use of force but patience as it didn’t want any further loss of lives."

Well I am sure they have all sat up and taken notice. Now peace will prevail.

I am pleased he is using his influence as a world statesman for the good of all of us.

Or perhaps this could be the reason for his concern;

"Syria is a major   importer of Thai 5% rice or about 100,000 tons per year, and the Middle East market holds 20% of total Thai export market or a million ton a year, any escalation of the conflict could hurt Thai rice exports."

How on Earth does he think that he may either have any say in, or influence any action / inaction over Syria

His own Country is crying out to be led by a man who can obtain peace in the South Etc, Etc Etc Etc. Get that right first before looking elsewhere.

I'm guessing for 2 reasons.

1. It may effect tourism - flights unable to get to Thailand.

2. It may effect tourism - Russians and EU nationals fighting each other in Thailand.

Ohh ! of course

Don't any of the 'commentators' here have the sense to perceive the diplomatic nuances?

Well if there is anyone who knows anything about breaching international laws it's certainly the Thais. Overthrowing elected governments, slavery, human trafficking list goes on and it's quite extensive.

The extended "hurt" seems internally generated.
