As the title states, not sure where to put this ... (please move elsewhere if req, but please not into some obscure little visted subsection) ... Looking for advice on how to and what software to use, to setup a easy self operating, interactive site for a 13yo Thai/farang to mould into a hopeful future income stream.

For me, keep it simple, if you have examples of people operating similar site with similar goals, please link them....must be easy to operate, but modern and up to date, not dinosaur vintage stuff and able to offer things to add or included already such as shopping site perhaps in future, but not main focus now. Include photo and video reports, interactive somehow, a fun following for like minded kids that can also grow with her over the years.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Get a cheap hosting like this one for $12 a year + free domain name. No reason to buy expensive one when starting out.

Install WordPress - it is a content manager system, very easy to use - like Word and it can manage everything - you can later add stuff and layers (like a lego) with plugins. You can completely change design in one click with thousands of available themes.

Not sure what you mean - when you get the hosting I linked above there is an option to install Wordpress with just few clicks

If you mean example of Wordpress website - over 30% of all websites on the internet run on Wordpress. So you likely visit dozens every day

You can setup a free blog here and mess around / test it : https://wordpress.com/

Just click 'Get Started' and take it from there...they do have paid for options but that's up to you.

Ok cheers ..... picture for a  minute I'm a complete thickhead re IT ... if anyone has an example of a similar site/blog that we are looking to setup.... please post it.

In meantime, I'll give ukrules trial a go.... cheers

He (You) should think about starting with a Facebook page. Easy to start, and much easier to get users on than on your own site. You can still change to a standalone solution later.

Thought comes to mind...control own destiny, not let fb control you...

There are 4 plans there...frpm free to $25 a month....does the free one provide enough to get started ?......... and whats the diff between website and blog setup .... 2 options offered

Good luck with this one.Usualy Thai People with big money have Daddy already got them sorted.

With the poorer Thai people they look for quick easy fixes for money, speaking from experience.

OP, you could achieve everything you mention just using facebook, create a page or private group, blog, share, sell etc.

Facbook nowdays is a platform for anything, a blog, a business, online selling etc. Your data is probably safer in a private facebook group than a open to the public webpage.

There is BIG difference between Wordpress on own hosting (which I mentioned in the first post) and the Wordpress.com one the other users suggested.

The one other member suggested is extremely limited - the free version won't even let you use own domain and they inject their ads into your website. Unless you pay $11 a month you can't even put your own ads on and unless you pay $35 a month they will keep their own branding on your website. Forget about being able to use it as a shopping site either. Or any of the plugins I mentioned which can add more layers of functionality.

The one I suggested is $1 a month including free domain and no limitations. But seems like you prefer it the hard way :-)

As to Facebook suggestion - absolute bullshit. Facebook owns the pages/groups and do whatever they want with it. Get 100 thousands followers? Great, next time you post something Facebook decides to show it to 200 people unless you pay for every post.

And at the mercy of facebook ....yet to be convinced this is better than controlling your own destiny
