Hey Y'all - I am visiting my Thai Partners village on May 4th and spending 4 nights there and staying in my partners home.  What should I eat or NOT eat?  Any other tips?  I am a little concerned at no Aircon but guess I'll survive lol

I always take a mattress when I go visit, I sometimes think I should take a fan with me also.

Seriously, you will be requested and required to take everyone to the local market and buy FOOD, ALCOHOL and possibly clothes for the family. Don't give money, ask them what they want it for and offer to go buy it.

Just suggest it before they do.

Adapt a very patient Zen attitude, keep smiling.

Three nights is about as much as I can stand.

Oh... toilet paper....

Thanks Cooked lol. I am used to the extended hand on such trips and generally.  More concerned about dietary issues and I may end up buying the aircon unit I "said" I wasnt buying a month ago lol.  Nearest bar is 17Km so worried about water, food etc Vs a delicate farangs constitution:)

If you are already comfortable with Thai food, you have a head start. If your tilac's village is in Isaan, then you (or your ringpiece) may be up for a baptism by fire despite already being familiar with Thai spiciness. Eat what tastes good and avoid anything that looks dodgy like the undercooked beef 'larb' for example. And NO shellfish! If in doubt, stick with the veggies or ask for a khaijiew moosahp which should get you a decentminced pork omelette just about anywhere; almost as much a staple as khao pat moo (fried rice with pork).

If you think you may be susceptible to getting the sh!ts with the dietary change, pack some Imodium for the lower end and there's a local concoction, white liquid, green label with a white rabbit on it that is a pretty good antacid. If they have a fridge, bring some of your own snacks but chances are there will be a 7-eleven reasonably near and they have farang-friendly snacks up the ying yang.

Have fun.

Beware most house also don’t have western toilets! Do not drink water from the tap or rainwater...big 18,5lt bottles are good. If you like fish fried/bbq, they are delicious!!! So does BBQ/deep fried pork/chicken!!! Be friendly to them, denying is a insult to them...
