This is not a question that I personally need answering right now, but it would be interesting to get feedback from those who fall into this category.

We all know that the embassies require extensive documentation of a genuine relationship etc before they are minded to grant a VV, eg phone-calls, emails, photos, reason to return etc etc.

But is such documentation required where there is an existing long-term realtionship?

Eg - the Thai partner is legally married and the 'foreign' husband/wife lives full-time in LoS. They have children together, maybe business together etc.

Does the application process ever become just a rubber-stamping exercise, or is extensive documentation still required for 'pensioner' couples?!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who falls into this catregory.

A thai man/Uk women couple I know, although not married, have been together in LOS for nearly 10years now. His first UK tourist visa was granted after an initial rejection when they had been together for 2 years. He is now granted a 6mth tourist visa every year and apart from being asked at the wondow everytime they make an application why they haven't got married yet, he never has to submit the same amount of documentation. The reasons for their visit are always for his gf to work with her mum during the busy summer season & they never stay more than 3 monts so maybe this is a factor. He spends his days golfing :o Nice work if you can get it. But he does run 2 businesses in LOS so it's like his yearly holiday :D

I would imagine that as one of the major factors of a visit visa being rejected being the the length of time known & risk of flight or non return to LOS, then having kids, house, long term marriage & a fully formed life together in LOS would cover all of that?? As in the case above, there is never 100% gtee that he wont disapear one year whilst in the UK but for the Embassy, it is minimal.

I also thought that thai spouses could apply for multiple tourist visas for a 5 or 10 year period?? I would think that a better option if it became an issue in future.

A mate of mine, who lives and has a business in LOS, is married and has a young baby. His Mrs used to get it rubber stamped every time they wanted to come but the last time they went for a VV, the office offered (without him/her requesting) a 5 year open one.

Simon43 If you are married it is far easer to get a vv but you still have to show paper work to prove you can support her and the reason you only want a vv and not spouse visa :o

Once it is clear that the couple is established in Thailand, the need for copious amounts of supporting documentation decreases. I'd still provide a minimum, though, just to demonstrate that circumstances have not changed since the last visa was issued.

Scouse.

It will never become just a rubber stamp excercise, this is because things change. There will always be a need to show up to date bank book, statements, investments etc. to show you can support her as a sponsor. A ruling is also the visitor should be able to have enough money to fund the trip.

They will always want to know where she is going, why she is going, and how long for?

WARNING. I have just read, that she goes to work with the sponsor's mother for three months. Should you give this as a reason your partner wants to go abroad she will be flatly refused. It's the same as us here, without the correct documentation we can not work in Thailand.

Your misread that, It is my british freind who goes for 3 months to work with her mother, her long term thai bf goes too as they don't like to spend 3 months apart & he plays golf & meets up with friends he has made over the years. He (thai) doesn't work, she (british) does. And they always give her working situation as the reason for the visit :o
