Govt campaigning for organ donation

BANGKOK, 30th April 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health is urging people to donate organs and eyes to save the lives of almost 20,000 patients waiting for organ transplants.

The Ministry of Public Health, the Thai Red Cross Society and partners have transplanted organs, particularly kidneys to help patients at the end stage of renal disease. Kidney transplants reduce illnesses and fatalities more than hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

More than 5,800 people are on organ transplant waiting lists. More than 12,000 others are on cornea transplant waiting lists.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health MD Marut Chirasetthasiri said today that the ministry is urgently setting up centers for organ and eye donation in hospitals and urging people to donate organs and eyes when they die. The ministry has as a target an increase in the number of brain-dead organ donors every year; people who have given permission for the donation during their lives.

They could collect more than their requirement on the nations major highways.

Jokes aside, with the right monetary incentives to the relatives of the would

be donner, and the thousands of young and healthy road casualties

and other causes of death every year, Thailand could have a surplus of

organs in no time.... but in Thailand, as in Thailand, easy said than done....

sounds like a worthy cause;

as i understand it , this also removes any implied social requirement for a costly funeral; after signing up for the program, i believe there is a 'visit' by supposedly qualified medical personnel after death to ensure that the recently dead person 'qualifies' (not sure how that can work) and then the body is taken

I will donate my organ,  not used it in years.

They don't seem to be so popular for some reason,   now days. :giggle:

For those who have a genuine licence very easy to put a

organ donar tick in the box when new licence is issued,

the hardest thing to do is for donors to talk to their families and get them

to follow their wishes to donate, having that tick in the box ,

will make make some bodies life a whole lot better,

pure alms of the highest order.

Does this mean there might be some sort of organ donor card scheme that might be set up in the near future - similar  to those in other countries?

Probably not, it would need a lot of pushing to get something like that under way.

I don't know how Thais perceive the idea of donating organs? I would surmise it might be a Buddhist/cultural thing that would cause a reluctance to do this.

In the US they have just done a penis transplant, maybe i could donate my organ.

OOPS silly me it dont work anymore.:cheesy::cheesy:

Sorry to say,  but my body can go to the Wat intact and can up the chimney .

We live in a land of dubious ethics and rampant dishonesty.

We have had transplant Penis surgery reported in the news in resent weeks.

And the thought that my member,  could end up attached to someone with dubious sexual preferences, is just to much.

also I can see the Falang member as a donor would be in high in demand in Thailand due to colour and size.

So a very  big,   No No for me.

Its a slippery slope once you start offering money for organ donations.. plus do the people trust the Thai doctors then not to give up on them too fast (not saying it happens saying rumors could spread).

I believe in my country (not sure they were busy trying to change the law) going from an opt in system to an opt out system. Not sure if that is the right way to go but most countries have organ donor shortages.

Careful!

Prayut steal organ for protesting!

I donated my kidney to my daughter 3 months ago, otherwise she would have been on dialysis for 5 years on the waiting list. If people realized how much suffering a donation alleviates there would be more people putting a tick in the donor box. An opt-out system is the way to go as many people do not have an objection but do not get around to filling in the form.

considering the amount of young people killed every day there should be no shortage, but as GREED takes over everything in this country has a price.

I read about the guy in the US getting a new most important part. I just visited the local veterinary clinic and asked if they would transplant a stallions most important member onto me. I would have the girls on Walking Street lining up in front of me with fist fulls of bahts asking me out.
