my friend I Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I've never heard of a Lat Krabang in Laos. What area is it? 1
JaiLai Posted May 1, 2018 Author Posted May 1, 2018 Oops - meant to read Luang PrabangSent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect 1
ehs818 Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 It's a lovely city, unspoiled by throngs of tourist, except for holiday weekends when zillions of Chinese invade the town. Waterfalls abound nearby, good small restaurants in the town center, reasonably priced accommodations. Many tour companies to offer you things to do.... Definitely a great place to visit. 1

Kerryd Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 If you are interested in old/ancient history, not far from Luang Prabang is the "Plain of Jars" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plain_of_Jars). It would almost be a "must see" if you are that close. Luang Prabang was also the home of the Emerald Buddha for a few years (1552-1564), having been taken there from it's previous home in Chiang Mai (and then moved to Vientiane in 1564 where it stayed for the next 214 years). Not sure where it was housed while in Luang Prabang but there will probably be references to it around the city. Note that "Luang Prabang" literally means "Royal Buddha Image" but in this case, refers to the Phra Bang, an image of Buddha that a Khmer king gave his son-in-law (Fa Ngum) back in 1359 to grant "Buddhist legitimacy" to his rule over that area. The Phra Bang is considered to be the most sacred Buddhist image in Laos and many devout Buddhists see it a symbol of the right to rule Laos. There is also the Royal Palace Museum that may be worth a look if you're into that kind of thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Palace,_Luang_Prabang) . A couple other links that may be of interest: https://lornaexplores.wordpress.com/2014/10/31/top-15-in-luang-prabang/ https://www.guroute.com/Tours/Index/268061 ps: "Lat Krabang" is the district immediately north of the Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Popular Post Spaniel Posted May 1, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 1, 2018 Wife and I have been there a couple of times, the last about a year ago. You didn't mention a price range for a hotel but if around $50 a night is ok then I highly recommend Villa Chitdara. Great rooms, breakfast, location. Check out their website for details: www.villachitdara.com Unless you're interested in a trip outside the city then 3 to 4 days in LP is plenty. The waterfall outside the city is well worth a look (sorry, can't think of the name) a boat ride on the Mekong, temples, night market, excellent pizza at Phan Pizza which is run by a Canadian guy and his Lao wife, the Royal Palace, now a museum. You didn't say where you are in Thailand so hard to tell you the best way to get there. If in Bangkok then fly. Have fun, here are a few pics from our last trip. 4
zaZa9 Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Good pics! Looks like my Thai girl and I did very similiar stuff there. Nice city ..
Spaniel Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I think the moderators should change the name of the thread to Luang Prabang?
Hardie Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Depends on what you want. It was nice twenty years ago, too 'over-run' for me now...
