Police said four successful recent drug busts had led to the confiscation of a huge haul of narcotics, including more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana, three kilograms of highly concentrated hashish oil, over 100,000 meth-amphetamine pills, some 5,300 grams of crystal meth or “ice”, and 850 grams of ketamine.

Deputy police chief Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakhan and Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) head Lt-General Sommai Kongvisaisuk announced the four cases at a press conference yesterday at the NSB head office in Bangkok.

Some 490 kilograms of dried marijuana worth Bt15 million in street value were seized in Bung Kan province on Saturday, but the four suspected Laotian smugglers managed to flee.

Four Nakhon Phanom men aged 27-53 were arrested with 598 kilograms of dried marijuana and three kilograms of highly concentrated hashish oil at a gas station in Udon Thani province on Saturday.

The hashish oil is worth Bt500,000 per kilogram, as it is the most potent form of marijuana – one kilogram is extracted from 100 kilograms of fresh marijuana. The hash oil was believed to bound for the South before being smuggled to Europe and the US, according to Sommai.

The Udon Thani bust stemmed from a previous operation in March that seized 1,380 kilograms of marijuana in Nong Khai province, he added.

A Bangkok resident, Pornchai Buayaem, 24, was arrested with 106,000 meth pills, 200 grams of “ice” and 850 grams of ketamine in Taling Chan district on Friday. A tip-off suggested that Pornchai was transporting the drugs after collecting the large batch on the orders of a drug ring, to store at his relative’s house. Pornchai allegedly confessed to have transported drugs three times before and claimed to have been paid Bt50,000 on each occasion.

Two male suspects were arrested with 5,196 gram of “ice” in a police sting operation on Thursday. The first suspect was apprehended when delivering the drugs at a shopping mall’s parking lot in Samut Prakan province and his accomplice was subsequently nabbed at a mall in Pathum Thani province.

we don't need to know the seizures, we need to know the estimated amount that gets through and the , for all to see, tiny fraction that is apprehended, often by accident

It's somewhere around 95%. If it wasn't for tip-offs and informants, the figure would be closer to 100%

The judiciairy or the top brass of the Thai Police should also monitor and have the quantities seized accountable and carry due diligence till their destruction, to make sure none of the seizures "get misplaced" on the way out  from the lockup evidence room storage.

Why do we need to know that?

What is seized and what gets through is most likely the same the world over.

I suspect your reason for wanting to know this may be due to a need to make comment about the authorities competence.

If there was a negative comment about your beloved Thai authorities, then for sure you would chime in and defend them.

how is this huge when they seize like 10 million something yaba pills a week, and all the crystal meth seized during april and march.

LMAO about his statement that the hashish oil should be exported to the west.
It might be his dream one day...

The numbers quoted by the police about the marijuana don't add up:

Dried marijuana 490 kg worth 15,000,000 Baht, 1kg rougly 30,000 Baht

Hashish oil 1kg made from 100 Kg worth about 500,000 Baht, 1kg marijuana 5,000 Baht.

AFAIK in the US where the use of marijuana is legal you can buy 1st class oil made from locally grown marijuana without the need to smuggle it over several borders.

The statements made by the RTP are useless like so often.

A waste of time, money and resources.  The war on drugs, in all countries, is a war on the people carried out by time wasting authorities who actually, by their action perptuate crime and corruption.

3 kg of cannabis oil would have cured several 100s of patients or Parkinson, Sclerosis, Diabetes, Cancer, Glaucoma, Depression and so many other terribles diseases, its time governments stop the witch-hunt for cannabis and by it self produce it and distribuite it to pharmacies, and hospitals, to decrease health care costs and improve citizens life !

witch-hunt to support big pharma and oil multinationals or support the needs of the people ?

Isn't smuggling an occupation reserved for Thais?  Arrest those guys for working illegally.
