BANGKOK — The deputy national police commander Friday vowed to maintain security at a pro-democracy rally planned for tomorrow but said it could go ahead without violating the law.

Gen. Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said police are not worried about the demonstration, the latest in a series calling for speedy elections, since it will be contained within the campus of Thammasat University.

Of Course.  I will be happy to help:

Take a look at number 3 and number 4 as well as number 5 from the left, and you might get the picture out of what I mean. If not, never mind, don´t let it bother you. :cheesy:

Just for the sake of accuracy, Gen. Srivara Ransibrahmanakul is not the "Top Cop."

The Top Cop of the Royal Thai Police is Police Commissioner-General Chakthip Chaijinda. Srivara is one of Chakthip's deputies - like General Prawit is one of Prayut's deputies.

RTP deputies oversee various divisions and bureaus within the organization. From that perspective Srivara might be called a top cop for specific divisions.

Yeah, but. . .  nobody said he was.

As the headline lacks (as headlines often do) a definite or indefinite article,  "Top Cop" can be  taken to refer either to  the top cop or, as here,  top cop - in the form of the deputy national police commander.

But thanks, anyway, for the insight into the administrative structure of the BIB. Enlightening.

They don't.  The junta is caving.  The rally would happen anyway.  Condoning the rally draws no negative press.

I know it would be best to be the unidentified one in the picture. The named ones will be the first to go.

But when you think of it every time a class is held there would be that temptation to talk about the coup, governance, freedom of speech and control? Violation of the law?

Have to agree that they're a nerdy looking bunch - but looks can be deceiving.  They've certainly got balls enough to stand up for what they believe.

Think about what has happened to previous Thammasat Uni demonstrators.
