A crab-eating macaque died of electrocution near a power pole in Chon Buri’s Sriracha district on Sunday morning.

It is believed that the macaque headed out of a nearby forest in search of food, touched an electric cable and was killed.

Pichet Konklong, a local resident, said he noticed the animal lying still on the road at about 9am and decided to alert authorities.

“I stopped my motorcycle to check what I could do. But it was already dead,” he said.

Officials said the animal was just a few years old.

Electrocution burns were visible on its right cheek and right leg.

Authorities have received several reports about electrocuted macaques in recent years.

Suicide.

Unconfirmed reports say he was seen with a ladyboy macaque just hours beforehand.

I remember a similar story about ten years ago, regarding a death by electrocution in Chonburi.

That was an attempted theft of live overhead high-voltage power cables by the thief cutting the cable with bolt-cutters. The body was found at the base of pole, along with the bolt-cutters.

Comparing the two reports, I'm not quite sure who had the higher IQ.

Are you sure you're not monkeying around?

Good news story if there was no power outage caused by this animal.

One less monkey to bite anyone does not sadden me much.

I also have a close personal relationship with macaque and would never consider electrocuting it.

It could have been a human , another reason to stay away from forests and trees and anything that looks like a cable.  .

On the contrary. They are probably fed up (and rightly so) with the flocks of monkeys hanging around.
