Passengers using Don Mueang airport this weekend have been advised to allow three hours to complete formalities.

The State Railway of Thailand are installing a "Skywalk" pedestrian walkway in the area for the Red Line that is currently under construction.

All outbound lanes on Viphavadee-Rangsit road will be closed from 10pm Saturday until 4am Monday.

A diversion will be in place - outbound passengers will use two inbound lanes but severe traffic disruption is expected.

Passengers have been suggested to use the Don Mueang tollway as an alternative.

Officials advised all passengers to have documents ready for processing to speed things up.

This why I pay more and use Suvarnaphubi. And Don Mueng is only a 60 baht taxi ride from where I live.

You were faster

DMK only if there is no alternative.

I would advise 3 hours to complete formalities on any given weekend using DMK

I live ten minutes from DM, and I have never been stuck in traffic flying frequently out of there.   Pay to take the tollway and it’s easy.  Never any issues inside either.

It's a hellhole of an airport

Just because you live next door to it doesn't make it a good airport

Snobs or should I say, baht millionaires, humiliating a low-cost airport.

If you don't have anything useful to contribute, stay quiet and don't brag about your little baht wealth.

This is one of the reasons that I stay away from most expats and retirees here because they are big mouths and all-knowing.

What if you want to take a domestic flight inside Thailand you all-knows?

Oh I see, you probably charter a private jet.
That, to most of my knowledge, would then depart from your beloved Don Mueang Airport.

Use Thai Smile from Swampy for domestic. I have not seen anyone brag about their wealth as a reason for using Swampy but base it on DMK being an awful airport. Fair comments I would say.

Now wind your neck and actually read posts before you display your jealousy at people with more money than you.

Then you haven't been recently to DMK. The new terminal is fantastic and much better than BKK.
And for waiting times or queues, happened to me at both airports.
Depends on your luck.

I have been to DMK recently as both a passenger and to collect my wife after she returned there on a flight last week, I enjoyed neither for different reasons. It is about opinions and expectations, not about personal wealth.. given the choice I will choose Survanabhumi every time, my recent flight from DMK was not my choice.

I choose my flights by simply just picking the cheapest one. And this is in 90% of the case from DMK.

Both Airports are easily accessible by public transport from central BKK.

But you wannabe-snobs probably don't bother either with public transport and leave it to the low life population

If best = cheapest for you then congratulations.....

Actually I live 5 minutes from Swampy, taxi is around 70 Baht, compared to a few hundred to DMK. Swampy is always my first choice.

I can't be doing with all you pikeys queuing up at DMK, stinking the place out with your BO as you can't afford deodorant etc. :saai:  I am offended that you think I am a wannabe snob, I will have you know I am a proficient snob, you oik.

Ok the last bit is in jest, as I said earlier, wind your neck in, just because people want to use a particular service they are not snobs, do you ever get the BTS instead of a bus? If so I can level the same accusation as you.

DMK for local flights is fantastic! I drive to departures and for the small fee of 100 Baht, the valet service takes my car and parks it in covered parking and when I return I leave the baggage carousel and my car is waiting for me as I step through the exit (next to the taxi stand). Swampy does not have a similar service.

How I missed the old Don Muang, with its quaint shops and affordable but delicious restaurants. The airport was just a nice place, and reflected Thai-ness.

Sadly times move on, and of course the new airport serves its purpose, but lacks any memorable character. A very cold, and modern environment, which seems to be indicative of airports today.

Strange post. People that rightly complain about DMK are snobs ?

DMK is outdated, inefficient  and for many expats a nightmare to get to.

I once needed 30 minutes just to get from the off ramp to the terminal, the queues are often horrendous and the building is old and has barely been renovated.

For your information, Thai Smile (by far the best domestic airline) depart for the vast majority of their  flights from BKK. Apart from a few destinations (Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhom Phanom and maybe a few others) it is perfectly feasible to avoid DMK for domestic flights.

Something I do, and I am just practical, not a snob...

The food court in D M was far to walk to. The one in Swampy much easier to get to.

Far as airports go, I too preferred D M.

Just take the train. No traffic problem.
Of course one needs to get to a train station first... And with luggage both the bts and the mrt are hardly convenient.

Of course for someone that stays an easy 25 minutes from BKK getting to DMk is always a lengthy hassle, regardless of the mode of transportation

Coming from Pattaya DMK is never going to be my first choice because of lengthy travel.  Just back from CNX to BKK yesterday.  I was absolutely delighted with the automated taxi ticket system.  Two minutes and I was ready to roll.

I've done it on the MRT to H L many times with luggage. Never had a problem.
Well for starters I would take the mrt to bang Sue, not hualamphong, which from asoke only adds more travel time, and I still need to get to asoke by bts, very inconvenient most of the day.
