Crystal meth worth 450 million baht seized in Pattani

Police in Pattani on Sunday announced the seizure of 448 kilos of crystal methamphetamines with an estimated street value of 450 million baht.

 

Police swooped after receiving a tip off that a white Isuzu D Max pick up used to transport the drugs would be stopping at a petrol station in Don Yang district to hand over the drugs to men in a black Mitsubishi Triton.

 

A search of the vehicles found the drugs hidden inside bags of green tea.

 

Four people were arrested and charged in relation to possession and distribution of a category 1 drug after admitting they had been hired by a drug network in Tak Bai Narathiwat province.

 

Sunday’s seizure is believed to be the biggest made by Thai cops this year and comes after police on Friday announced that 10 million yaba pills worth an estimated US$45m was seized in Bangkok.

 

The Myanmar made pills, which were also hidden in Chinese branded green tea, were transported from northern Thailand, through Ayutthaya to Bangkok, where they were due to be taken to Malaysia.

 

Police followed four cars used to transport the drugs and made the seizure as the vehicles reached Bangkok on Thursday morning.
