Is there normally a deposit required on a new electric meter for your house?  If there is, how long before you can get your deposit back, if ever?  Is there a standard price or does it just depend on the local PEA policy?

Yes, there is a deposit, the rates are somewhere on the PEA website, a few 000 Baht. Rates are (supposedly) standardised across all PEA offices.

When you close your PEA account at that address (move) your deposit is returned.

i'll have to see if I can find that on there site.  We were just charged 4,600 baht for transferring from a temp meter (for building purposes) to a permanent one.  I was under the impression it was about 500-600 for the deposit.

That actually sounds about right.

If the forum search works for you there are a couple of threads with links / tables.

This is from a 2016 post, but I doubt much has changed.

Same as I paid in 1998 for a 15/45 meter!
