Theresa May to urge Trump to avoid London protests during UK visit - The Sun

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister Theresa May will urge U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid protesters in central London during his UK visit in July and instead meet her at her country residence, the Sun newspaper reported on Sunday.

The details of the plan will be given to the White House by Kim Darroch, British ambassador to the United States, the report said.

There are two proposals that will be made to the White House by Darroch upon May's approval - one for a Downing Street visit or one based at Chequers, a 16th-century manor house 40 miles (60 km) northwest of London - the report said, citing a source, who added it would be made clear that May prefers the meeting take place at Chequers.

Trump will also be asked to have tea with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, a royal residence west of London and not at Buckingham Palace, according to the report.

Darroch will suggest to the White House that Trump does not visit Britain's houses of parliament, the Sun reported.

May's office was not immediately available for comment.

Trump will travel to Britain in July for a working visit with May, after months of back-and-forth over when the U.S. president would visit what traditionally has been the United States' closest ally.

Many Britons have vowed to stage protests if Trump visits, with several politicians having previously voiced their opposition to Trump being granted a state visit.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said earlier in the year Trump was not welcome in London because of what he called Trump's "divisive agenda".

Trump cancelled a trip to London to open a new embassy earlier in the year. May was the first international leader to visit Trump in Washington after his inauguration last year.

Best to avoid inner city lefties anyway. They will only swear and throw objects like the children that they are.

I suspect if he comes into central London, the price of eggs and rotten tomatoes will soar.

Right on Comrade Corbyn.   Major protests ? Nah, a few hundred unemployed losers with nothing better to do at most. They certainly do not speak for The British.   I'm willing to be

Makes sense. Fly into a military air base and helicopter to Chequers.

London is already a nightmare to get around in. If Trump causes even more difficulty with his motorcade and closing the streets to let it pass, he will be rightly cursed by many that would not normally care.

There will rightly be major protests so that Trump is left in no doubt what The British think of him and his antics

Right on Comrade Corbyn.

I'm willing to bet they will all be remainers though.

If I were Trump I'd refuse to make an appearance in Britain until the government cleans up its act and would not mince words as usual.

Very probably

I think there is a very close correlation between Trumpsters and Brexiters. They certainly have much in common. I wonder if that assertion has ever been tested.

Exactly.

There seems little doubt that trump is (understandably) generally disliked in the uk, and a few (relatively) would somehow find the time to protest and behave extremely badly towards a foreign leader that has - so far - done nothing to hurt brits, as it's 'the thing to do'....

I can't stand trump either, but hate his 'demonisation' equally.  If he proves to be a war-mongering nightmare (ala the Bushes) then fair enough, but at the moment it only shows a lack of independent thought.

Doubt it, and suspect they will mostly be students and 'minorities'.

Why on earth would "unemployed losers" (as you phrase it ☹️) - care one way or the other?

While I expect the queen is wetting herself with sheer excitement at the prospect, I can't help wondering how they're gonna bypass the UK's strict quarantine laws

By the same rent-a-mobs who happily waved nicely to the kind dictator of China when he visited.

Britain has a tradition of free speech and democracy. Certain elements hi-jack that for their own agenda but whine like stuck pigs if anyone dares to demonstrate against their "darlings".

Enforce the law at all times.

Trump could really stir the pot and come out in support of Tommy Robinson.

OP::  "Trump will also be asked to have tea with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle..."

The US State Department's protocol office must be agonizing over this one.  It sounds like a premise to a Monty Python sketch.  Maybe Donald will entertain everyone with stories about supervising his beauty pageants.

Simple  -  Rent a Mob .  I've seen them at one protest talkking about which was the next demo they were going on,  that was mid week and mid term, so not workers or students.

Rent a lefty loser. Protest due to not having anything better to do.

Trump is a far better President than either Bush or Obama. Can't understand the attitude of the Brits. Really pathetic.

The Poop under my shoe is a better president than the Orange Turd. May he return to ashes soonest ?

Fact is  despite all the foregoing most Britons, like the rest of the world detest Trump and his yes men and don't want him in their country.

All this talk of students and lefties is absolute nonsense , protesters will be out in force and good of them.

Agreed I would not go out of the way to protest, but if I were on the street and his motorcade were passing I would turn my back on them.

Please can we have lots of photos of leading Tories with Trump during his visit.

The closer they are tied to him the better.

Trump's day of reckoning is around the corner, I have no problem if he takes a few Tories with him.

I'm sure any fan of Putin and his poison the dissidents campaign is going to be very well received in Britain.

Meanwhile, are there any ladies of the court looking to get felt up who might be recruited for the visit???   Or homegrown British porn stars that he can sample during his stay???  Perhaps a golden shower show or two?

What a shame he is not there now to see the angry street demonstrations in protest against the outrageous 13-month prison sentence unjustly slapped on Tommy Robinson and the blanket UK-wide ban on the media reporting the case.

Mercifully, this latest attempt to silence the outspoken 35-year-old father of three - who courageously defied threats on his life and liberty to expose the official cover-up of Muslim rape gangs which abused thousands of UK children -  is not working.  Those responsible are getting a richly-deserved hammering on social media and TV channels across the US.

While at Chequers, perhaps President Trump will find an opportunity to remind his hostess what being a democracy entails, as she and her cabinet seem completely to have forgotten. The latest proof is a new UK law in the pipeline will make so-called hate speech an offence punishable by up to seven years in prison.

The time has come for us Brits to demand a new, written Constitution modelled on that of the US and containing the same vital safeguards to our personal liberty as are spelled out in the renowned First Amendment.

Without it, Tommy Robinson will simply be the first in a long line of silenced voices we need to hear.

There is no blanket ban on reporting the imprisonment of the neo-facist, mortgage fraudster Robinson.

Now adjust your tinfoil hat and polish your jackboots.
