Yingluck granted 10-year UK visa, says BBC Thai website

What a joke!

The UK is just as corrupt as any other country.

Just look what is happening to Tommy Robinson.

I'm sure that Yingluck's ill-gotten wealth had nothing to do with the decision.

A low-level Thai fugitive from justice who manages to get to the UK would be granted the same consideration, I'm sure. LOL!

Britain - the new haven for wanted fugitives, corrupt politicians, murderers, money launderers, and mafioso from Thailand (but not average Joe's Thai spouse)... ?

... corrupt big money talks ... (Why do you think Hillary Clinton hasn't been publicly executed?)

However, in the Yingluck situation, things worked out in a way that benefits everyone.

Yingluck was not the criminal politician Hillary Clinton or Thaksin was.

When Yingluck took office, corrupt officials already in place did most of the dirty work.

Yingluck's inexperience made it "child's play" for the operatives to take care of business.

Also, the junta is OK with Yingluck getting the passport. They already knew what was going down.

The future looks great for Thailand all the way around.

No matter where she lives, Yingluck's heart will always be in Thailand.

The implication of this is that the UK specifically and several other countries in general do not recognize the legitimacy of the court case against her.

I bet Prayut nearly choked when he heard it!

Thailand- if you want to have international respect for your country and system of justice, you need to have a respectable system of justice and put an end to these 'show trials' where political opponents are brought down. The proper way to hand over power from one government to the next is through an election.

You will be a laughing stock until you manage this....

What nonsense and sophistry. Conjecture to meet your own preferred agenda.

She has a passport and therefore citizenship of a European country (note European not EU member state).

There are no Interpol notices out for her and despite all the internal BS no real attempts from the Junta to extradite her.

She has not been convicted of any crime by her country of current citizenship, the one that issued the passport and nor have they seemingly been asked to extradite her.

She is a billionaire and can easily afford expensive immigration lawyers to obtain the visa for her. Investor class visas require certain amounts of money which are chump change for her.

The UK has also granted visas to Russian billionaires with dubious backgrounds, and not necessarily on Russian passports.

If you are a billionaire it's fairly easy to buy citizenship from numerous countries for what to a billionaire is chum change. What's surprising is she and her brother didn't go for Malta or Cyprus which would have given them a EU passport. Or perhaps they tried and couldn't get them?

The UK is following it's visa rules. The Thai government, despite all the bluster, aren't actively pursuing her extradition or arrest. She has the resources to fly around privately and employ an army of lawyers.

She pissed off before the verdict, despite countless promises she'd never flea, and 'die for democracy" - 555! Just like her brother, corrupt liar whose self interest is paramount. Hyperbole about show trials is nonsense. If they wanted that she'd never been allowed to leave.

I wondered how long it would take the Shin fans to try and exploit this and claim it shows Yingluck to be innocent. Didn't have to wait long did we!

Not a joke. She indeed got 10 years visa. This news must be eating you up since it broke yesterday. Prayut may need to seek her advise how to get a visa as a fugitive.

Only she isn't a fugitive. Her country of citizenship on which the visa was issued isn't Thailand. There are no Interpol notices or arrest requests out for her outside of Thailand.

Advise - easy. Buy yourself citizenship of some third world country where money is the only interest. Buy your own plane so you don't have to fly with the commoners. Employ army of immigration lawyers. Have large amounts of easily accessed money available. Take your "little black book", full of interesting facts about all sorts of people, friends, foes and those in between, with you - keep very safe. And voila!

What's disgusting is the ease which mega rich criminals can buy British investor visas compared to the real difficulties the average honest British citizen experiences in trying to get a visa for a non EU wife. But the KPI for investor visas points up whereas the spouse one points down; and purely for Tory political reasons.

Anybody can apply for a visa with a ten year validity if they can demonstrate a need to travel to the UK on a regular basis.
Whilst these are normally issued to business travellers, a number of our members spouses have them.

Why for heavens sake can't we get a 10 year visa here   ???  spend all our money here  and have to report every 90 days. Looks like we have done wrong.    Yingluck  is allowed after doing wrong.   After living here 5 years min, having no convictions, why not.    We have proven our loyalty  but penalised  for it.

What a slap in the face for the Thai gov't.  Wouldn't be surprised if Thailand retaliates diplomatically.  Can't believe England gives visas away to criminals.  I guess money talks.

Because the rules for visas in the UK are different. The nearest here, I guess, would be the Elite card/visa or investor visa.

Money talks.

Don’t grudge it. Every country in the world has investor visas. She may even get citizenship after few years. You got evidence she applied for investor visa or just your usual speculation.

Your usual anti Yingluck rant is well noted and expected.

Save some of your sympathy for the 80 civilians mowed down by the military.

Look up UK visa classes. I'm sure you can get a friend to show you.

Applying for citizenship would be difficult. She can't pay someone to sit the English and citizenship tests for her! And the UK officials don't cheat for a back hander.

Interesting that the someone made the decision to arrest him for 'a breach of the peace". That is a subjective police officer at the scene decision - or was it?

Others, who are clearly stirring up people and likely causing a breach of the peace are allowed to do so.

It seems British law enforcement is getting selective too. Which will undermine the centuries of good policing if not careful.

I'm happy for her and her family.

And now she got to see how a real democracy works, and how the laws are there to protect you .

And who do you think placed her as PM? Perhaps the same person who employed the MPs who elected her as such?

Yes. I will continue to challenge Shin propaganda, fairy stories, delusion and pretense that they are above the law.

I do have sympathy for them. Poor stooges used by a ruthless greedy tyrant who promised to stand shoulder to shoulder with them and then pissed off luxury shopping with his family in Paris. And I have sympathy for those murdered by paid thugs including innocent children whose murder was loudly celebrated by PTP MP's and supporters.

Not sure the election law and constitution allows Thaksin to place her as PM. Junta may do that but not civilian government.

All not lost. You do have compassion for those killed by the military. I too have sympathy for innocent children killed and hope the justice system will hunt them down and convict whoever they are.

Eric,  forget Prayut,  forget your accusation about mowing down -and gunning protesters, here we are talking about a person who is or would be convicted for doing wrong. She has been granted a 10 year visa.     We here living over 15 years and not do wrong have to report every 90 days.    Nothing to do with the army--OR elections.
