Thailand Post to add e-commerce to its logistics services

BANGKOK, 31 May 2018 (NNT) – Thailand Post will add e-commerce to its logistics services, offering locally made products nationwide.

From the fourth quarter, Thailand Post will pilot exports of community-made products to Japan by collaborating with Japanese online marketplaces.

The President of Thailand Post, Samorn Terdtampiboon, said the company had spent 10 million baht to launch ThailandPostMart.com, helping local communities sell their products in a marketplace with special delivery costs.

The website gathers locally made products nationwide into a "digital community", aiming to be the largest distribution channel for agricultural products, crafts, food and One Tambon One Product (OTOP) items.

This is an excellent idea.

Order me 2 Kebabs from LK Metro.

A very good initiative.

But as long as the Thai customs are corrupt, rules and duty rates made up by the sole officer on duty, parcels getting "misplaced" by some dishonest post officer or postmen, parcels getting blocked at customs for no reason,  e-commerce will never take off.

Perhaps all this is done on purpose to dissuade e-commerce imports and to promote domestic e-commerce...but if there is no trust, may be tricky.

Yes, yes the usual "I never-had-a-problem" will spurge, but globally there is still a lot to be done to establish public trust on e-commerce, mainly when imported from abroad.
