Indian journalist stripped, blackmailed and robbed by compatriots

A journalist from India was reportedly assaulted, stripped, photographed and blackmailed in Pattaya by his compatriots, according to a complaint filed with police. 
 

The victim, whose identity has been withheld, lodged a complaint at Muang Pattaya Police Station at 1am on Sunday. 

 

He told police that some Indians had contacted him under the pretext of hiring him to take pictures for a tour company with a plan to promote it in the Indian market. 

 

Taking up the offer, he checked into a hotel in the Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri province to prepare himself for the work. But on Friday night those Indians assaulted and stripped him and after photographing him threatened to blackmail him. 

 

“They threatened to send those pictures and even video clips to social-media pages that are well-known in India if I didn’t give them money. I am famous there. So, I had to give them the 200,000 rupees [nearly Bt100,000] I had in my possession,” the victim said. 

 

The attackers allegedly also demanded that the 40-year-old victim sign two cheques for them. 

 

After he gave in, they fled the scene. 

 

The victim, after thinking things over, decided to call a friend for help. The friend is married to a Thai woman and she took him to the police station to lodge the complaint. 

 

Police vowed to investigate the case and nail down the culprits.

Two Indians arrested in Pattaya for demanding ransom from "naked man" in hotel room

Pattaya police have announced the arrest of two Indian nationals wanted for detaining, photographing and demanding money from a fellow Indian who is a journalist.

 

Anirban Ghosh, 40, arrived in Thailand thinking that he was to go into business with Sumit Kayan, 26, and Rahul Wadhawah, 32. 

 

But early Sunday morning after an argument with Kayan in a hotel room in Soi Pattaya Park, Kayan left the room.

 

Wadhawah then took pictures of the naked victim and contacted a third party in India in an effort to extort hundreds of thousands of baht in ransom.

 

Mr Ghosh managed to get a message out and get help that led him to Pattaya police station.

 

The suspects - arrested at 11.30 am later Sunday -  were found in possession of two checks and the credit card of the victim.

sounds to me more like a bum bandit getting  lured into a situation were he was then filmed and photographed with his pants down and then extorted

First the victim who agreed to photograph the tour company's operations here, as well as the Indian kidnappers who were unaware that kidnapping and blackmailing fall in the category of occupations only available to Thai nationals (or so I've been led to believe.....)

Yeah, as if this is all the story.  If I were assaulted and somebody wanted to attempt to blackmail me by sending photos of my junk all over the internet, fine, so be it.  It is not like the guy was making a porn video.  except for his possible cocktail sized weenie, there isn't much to worry about.  And if the guys try to contact him and blackmail him, well, every contact method increases the chances of them being caught.  And the linked article says he signed two checks, so shouldn't be too hard to see when and where and who cashes them.  Or if they are his checks, just call the bank and issue stop payment in time.  Something else was going on here.
