Video: Tragedy just averted as school song thaew driver slapped with 5,000 baht fine and suspension

CiHZjUdJ5HPNXJ92GTMBIcOud4GXbRK5hX.jpg

CCTV footage from an intersection near Kabinburi showed a fully loaded school song thaew (truck with seats) almost collide with other vehicles as the driver plowed through a red light.

The song thaew almost topples over such is the speed and swerve.

The children came from three area schools - Kabin Withaya, Jiamin School and Ruksasap School in Prachinburi.

Following the incident on Wednesday the local Department of Land Transport fined the driver Beng, 51, 5,000 baht and suspended him from driving for 30 days.

Beng apologised to reporters and society at large. He said the light was green then changed to amber and red as he passed. He tried to get through but it proved beyond his capabilities.

Meanwhile other song thaews of a similar kind picking up children in the area were all slapped with 1,000 baht fines for using the wrong kind of vehicles.

Drivers complained they were being made scapegoats because one man drove like a maniac.

Beng's vehicle has been permanently retired, with the words "Haam Chai" (use forbidden) now indelibly written on the front.

lying bar steward, that was a good solid red light he ran through, and still disputes video evidence, loaded with school kids on board as well.

  • This is precisely why I will never trust a Thai to drive my grandson to and from school. Fined 5000 baht? Suspension? Pathetic! This lying idiot isn't fit to operate a supermarket trolley let alone be

I counted six seconds the light was red before the driver went through it. When it changes from green to amber there's also three seconds before it turns red, when you should regard it as "stop",

When it changes from green to amber there's also three seconds before it turns red, when you should regard it as "stop", unless you are already passing through the junction, or "by braking might cause an accident" - IIRC.

As the previous posted said - "lying bar steward".

That'll wipe right off with a brown envelope.

good to see  a follow up on crime. Usually reported and then nothing, anyway the guy driving the truck was 100% to blame, hope he's not allowed to drive  again,  but I'm not holding my breath.

Normal behaviour on the roads of Thailand.

This can be seen every day,  in a every province,  what's new. CCTV

Was he telling lies about how long it was red,  when he went through the red light. ?

This would be most unusual behaviour.

Taking care of your children, with care in the community by the passenger service vehicle drivers of Thailand. :bah:

Wonder if the Thai apologists of TV would like to come along and tell us how good the Thai drivers are  now ?

Bet the driver was not pissed up when he did this,

but I just cant tell, the difference with them,  same , same but same.

Give the guy a break. It’s not easy working out when to go and when to stop when driving towards these intricate lighting systems. I think the lights should always be green. Would make my life so much easier.

as we can see on the video, Beng is a liar.

the light changed to yellow a long time before he reached it, we see the vehicle starting to slow down before "Beng the genius" decided to floor it - watch the black exhaust cloud appearing when he does this.

this driving was not a mistake, it's his habitual way of driving.

Beng is a bad and reckless driver and should not drive any passenger transport vehicle again.

The village people here wonder why I drive and pickup our 4 kids to school everyday instead of putting them in the school minivan, they probably think I'm a cheap Charlie, 700 baht per head, per month, for the 25 kilometre trek each way to and from school, i.e. an hours return drive for me in the morning and afternoon.

Fact of the matter is, as much as the kids annoy the crap out of me some days, I wouldn't put them in harms way with any Thai driver !

The only thing this idiot did right was to make the swerve, when he realised he was not going to get through before the lorry. Would have been carnage if he had carried on. Unbelievable what people will do here to avoid having to wait a few minutes for the next light change.

''Slapped'' what a joke...that man should never drive again

If they stopped Thais from driving because they went through red lights 80% would not be driving. This guy had the potential to kill lots of kids and what did he get a 5000 baht fine and told a great bullshit story also. But there is  one mob you can blame for all  this the RTP,   Start taking notice of vehicles not stopping at red lights and fine them if they do Oops sorry that was too much to ask

Thankfully none of the kids were injured or killed.

This guy should never be allowed to operate a vehicle for the rest of his life.

TIT,  They messed it up and punished the car instead of the driver.

It should be: Beng has been permanently retired, with the words "Haam Chai" (use forbidden) now indelibly written on the forehead.

In other words driving as fast as possible wasn't fast enough.

"When approaching an intersection slow down and be prepared to stop"  translation to Thai  "When approaching the situation so what?  My brakes probably don't work anyway, and my vehicle is overloaded and I am going too fast for the road and general conditions, so I must try and beat the lights"

I think it probably balances out in fuel, never done the calculations, regardless of the cost, would never put the kids in one of those death traps with those brain dead drivers who also smoke while driving, kids don't get a say in breathing that crap as well, or how many can fit in to the mini van, usually double the capacity, greed !

Should never drive again.

Beng has indeed learnt his lesson. In future, when running a red light, DRIVE FASTER.

  • Now I know why all the Thai bargirls tend to bend the truth (not had boom boom for 5 year). What a pathetic excuse for a driver, even if "brakes" not work he could have still made a left turn with all the time he had after light turned RED. Too busy watching porn on mobile phone or arguing with wifey
