Hereditary review: The much-hyped horror visits dark places rarely caught on film

Horror is having its place in the sun at the moment, with Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning social commentary Get Out and John Krasinski's nerve-wracking A Quiet Place delighting the critics and killing it at the box office.

 

Director Ari Aster's feature debut Hereditary is the latest in line, and it lives up to the hype by exposing an emotional rawness rarely shown on film. Not to mention scaring the shit out of us.

 

Toni Collette stars as Annie Graham, a professional diorama builder who we find dealing with the death of her mother.
