Singapore Next Week

Featured Replies

Off to Singapore for visa next week, can anybody recommend a cheap, decent hotel in a reasonable location ? Also is there anything I should make an effort to do or see while I'm there ?

Thanks in advance.

What do you call cheap?

There are hostels close to Bugis Street that are clean and cheap for Singapore standards.

There is lots to do here from the Zoo and Night Safari to execclent sea food

Give me a shout if you like - I can show you around a bit on a night if you fancy a pint ;-)

There are decent and cheap hotels in the Geylang district. They are cheap because the neighborhood is very indecent. Check online for the Fragrance chain of hotels and find one in Geylang. They are in the middle of a massive red light district, but there is some of the best local food in town nearby, and excellent subway access. Not really dangerous to walk around. Lots of Thais living there too if you get homesick. These are basic hotels but excellent value for Singapore. Expect Asian style shower in the toilet, and very small rooms.

Thanks, I will give that a try. In the red light district.........that will be something different haha

I arrive on Air Asia at 10.30 am (supposing the plane doesn't disappear into a large crack........or perhaps it will be me doing that in Geylang............and need to submit application by 12.15. Given the tightish schedule would I be OK going to the Consul by MRT or should I grab a cab ?

Thanks.

I arrive on Air Asia at 10.30 am

I have never flown Air Asia but from what I have read on ThaiVisa they are notorious for being late. However, it may not be too bad in the earlier part of the day. Looking on flightstat.com at yesterday’s FD arrivals in Singapore I see this:

FD 3501 scheduled 10:25 actual 10:39

FD 3503 scheduled 15:00 actual 14:55

FD 3505 scheduled 20:05 actual ???

FD 3507 scheduled 21:30 actual ???

When AirAsia fails to report the actual arrival time you may safely assume that the flight arrived late, very late.

Good luck with your flight!

Hi,

I've just been told its an hourish on the train, so I'll go by taxi (wonder if the meter starts at 35 baht equivalent ? I suspect not).

Even if the plane arrives at 11.00, should still have enough time.

Quite looking forward to it actually, bit of an adventure.

Cheers.
