Notification Of Foreigner's Residence

Featured Replies

Hi

I am a Thai citizen, my boyfriend is Canadian. We moved from Europe to Bangkok last October and are renting the apartment. I was searching this site and came across this page that says:

"The Immigration Bureau must be informed when a foreigner resides with or rents the property of a Thai Citizen."

It also said that it had to be done within 24 hours of the alien's arrival.

How vital is this? Would we be fined for not reporting his residence when he arrived? Has anyone have trouble with the visa extension / reentry application because of this?

Thanks in advanced!

If you are renting the apartment the landlord should have done the reporting (but I assume you did the renting so he is not aware of a foreigner resident?). The fine is small and probably most residences outside of the normal foreigner rental/hotel stay areas don't bother to report. This should not be any visa problem.

Well, the landlord is aware, but it's my name on the lease, so I doubt that the landlord did anything about it.

Good to know it's not a super big deal. Thanks for the quick reply!

When we (TW and I) went for my first 1-year extension, the officer asked my wife if she had reported me. She hadn't so we were told to go and file that report. Not a big issue: we went to a different office (same place), no fine and they even let her date the form with the day it should have been filed on. It all appeared as the officers just wanted to help us have all paperworks okay
