A policeman was shot dead when a sting operation in Pathum Thani went badly wrong, allowing a drug suspect to flee.

Pol Sg Maj Asarn Ketjampa, 32, was shot once in the left of his chest during the operation, which took place at 3am at the Klong Neung community on Soi Klong Luang 24 in Tambon Klong Neung in Pathum Thani's Klong Luang district.

Asarn, a drug suppression officer from Nonthaburi, died later from his wound at the Pathumvej Hospital.

He was shot while trying to arrest drug suspect, Yongyuth Wangpairee, 27, who had been contacted by an undercover officer wanting to buy 2,000 meth pills.

The sting operation was planned following Nonthaburi narcotics suppression police’s arrest of two drug suspects on Wednesday. The two implicated Yongyuth, saying they obtained the drugs from Yongyuth for reselling.

When Yongyuth walked out of the house to deliver the 2,000 meth pills to the undercover officer, Asarn ran out from his hiding place to arrest the suspect who shot him once and fled.

Police later took Yongyuth's elder sister and mother in for questioning at the Klong Luang police station.

I see a bad ending for Yongyuth when they catch up to him !

Given he killed a policeman and with the popularity of the death sentence he seems a certainty for the sleepytime long needle; a blunt one at that. That is after about 10 years or so in the worst prison they can find; just to give him time to think about it.

After which they will spring it on him unexpectedly before Human Rights people and his family get to find out about it. That's Thainess explained.
