PM asks for sympathy in govt reform drive

PNPOL610627001001002.jpg

BANGKOK, 28 June 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's Prime Minister has asked for young Thais to be sympathetic towards the government’s efforts to implement structural reforms.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha made the remarks in a speech to youth participants in the Tree of Love music contest. He said that his administration has come up with a national strategy to ensure effective state administration, promote continuous national development and assist impoverished citizens through programs such as the Thai Niyom Yung Yuen or Sustainable Thai Idealism project.

He said the goal of his administration is to implement structural reforms, while his visits to foreign countries are meant to learn about useful policies that can be adopted in Thailand. He also wishes to promote peace and reconciliation before the general election.

The premier then attended the launch held by a campaign to eradicate mosquito larvae and prevent the spread of dengue fever and other diseases.

Why not speak the truth? The only aim his administration has is staying as long as possible at the trough.

What a bunch of BS!

He has had four years with Article 44 to implement whatever the hell he wants, but now he needs some time to implement 'reforms'? Perhaps if he started earlier rather than snuffing out the freedoms enjoyed by Thai people, placing all his cronies in plum government jobs at high (often multiple) salaries and doing everything possible to ensure that he keeps control, then he might have some credibility.

Four wasted years where Thailand took steps backwards. Four wasted years which damaged the cause of Democracy. Four wasted years where he and his buds have lived high off the hog. Four wasted years where he and his buds got wealthy. Four wasted years where he took great advantage of government expense accounts. Four wasted years where his prime focus was to improve his own lot rather than Thailand's welfare. Four years where he could have tried to heal Thailand's wounds, but instead exacerbated them, etc etc etc.

Four wasted years.

And now he wants sympathy.

It is disgusting.

Right! He gives NOTHING - not a jot of kindness or sympathy to the mass of the Thai people - so he is lucky if all he receives back is no sympathy in return. It could be a lot worse for him: in some countries, populated by fiery and warrior-like souls, he would already be swinging from a lamp post!

Wonderful post (above), Samui. I agree with every word you write - and I bet most of the other TVF posters here do too!

Democracy as in Shinawatras' administrations? Graft, corruption, people dying in the streets? The last 4 years have been stable. It is time for cooperation to move forward.

Yes, elected by the people at every election this century. Deaths on the street? Shot by the Royal Thai army. Graft? Corruption?   Ask Prawit what time it is.

The song "Sympathy for the Devil" springs in mind:

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste..

Delusional BS

Itys the young Thai's that will be his undoing. The students have been the ones protesting even when they risk severe punishment. They wont be easily fooled into believing that old military and bureaucratic burglars are going to transform this backward country. Their use of modern social media is letting them access all the information that Prayuth has banned in his attempt to keep them uninformed.

As opposed to the government, who are now no longer uniformed.

What a good post by you, absolutely good for nothing.:cheesy:

Prayut and his cronies have been trying very hard to get people on their side, only people who believe their BS are the brain dead people unable to think for themselves, maybe your meds need changed.

Democracy, as in the government is elected by the people and is able to be removed by the people at elections.

There is still graft (likely more than before).

There is still corruption (likely more than before).

People may not be dying in the streets, but once the Junta has finished gutting universal health care - there'll be plenty of Thais unnecessarily dying again as they were before Thaksin's 30 baht scheme.

The last 4 years have been oppressive, repressive, censored, financially disastrous and backwards.

It is time for the people to be heard.

Understandable, but have hope.

In the end he will be his own undoing. History is littered with odious leaders with ego ratings far exceeding their IQ levels and abilities.

They don't usually last long. It is only a matter of time before he finishes digging his own grave.

Given that he's shooting the devil's sign I'm assuming he wants some Sympathy for the Devil.  Perhaps he can get Sir Mick and crew to hum a few licks for him.  Given his  affinity for overthrowing democratically elected civilian governments, it does seem somewhat fitting, 'eh?  Perhaps Sir Mick can tailor a version for Big P's upcoming campaign.    He can don a 'period piece' that he's so fond of, deck out as Pontius Pilate, and wash away the stains of illegal coup making prior to anointing himself as the next righteous and the only truly democratic candidate de juer.

If have to make a choice, I would have more sympathy for a venomous snake with its head cut off than all the top 3 P's put together. Surely he jests?

Then we can look forward to Thailand implementing First World Traffic Policing Standards and Methods in order to end the carnage on Thai roads?  You know, like having trained police in patrol cars pulling over violators enmass for the more egregious and dangerous driving like highly aggressive driving, excessive speeding, passing on blind corners and hills, driving the wrong way on freeway and one-way roads, failure to yield right-of-way, failure to stop and doing so publicly and proactively instead of issuing citations after the poor driving has cause an injury or loss of life.  So your citizens can look forward to you going out to "Learn about useful policies that can be adopted in Thailand" like that as opposed to just dressing up in Louis Vuitton fashion-ware and going on taxpayer funded junkets and photoshoots?

When I saw the little bass player I was wondering if he sang the song of which I forgot the title:

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

(Woo woo, woo woo)

I hope you are right, but I work in an office with educated Bangkok born Thais and while a few express frustration the Junta, most have been a fed a steady diet of lies about the poor of Issan (many have never set foot in Issan) and fear what democratic rule means - namely, a majority of Thais, whom most elite hold in absolute contempt, having a say in how Thailand is governed.  Many believe that "Thailand is not yet ready for democracy" and don't think that a taxi driver deserves a vote just as they do.  Remember the anti-democracy protests, where the young professionals from Bangkok seriously believed and argued that the rural poor were not entitled to say in Thailand's governance.  Has that really changed?
