Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has asked the Government Housing Bank (GHB) and the National Housing Authority to build affordable homes for low-income groups across the country.

The two institutions have to come up with a clear plan in the next few months, he said on Friday at GH Bank Expo 2018.

Chatchai Sirilai, president of the GHB, said the affordable price is no more than Bt1 million per flat and a payment of about Bt3,000 per month with a mortgage term as long as 40 years.

He said the GHB will ask the private sector to join a public-private partnership and the Finance Ministry should provide tax or other incentives for the housing projects.

Target groups who are to be eligible for affordable housing include those on low incomes, young adults and senior citizens, he added.

Well, if they do it, then those selected/pass muster will end up being unable to pay the monthly repayments at some point or another down the line and it will end up as more like a government/tax payer give-away as the banks (rightly so) would never accept any of them as they are unsuitable borrowers. Might as well tout it as a government benevolence program and be realistic.

Thaksin is going to win the next election - this is a certainty.

Let's hope those who have support and participated in the illegal government of the past 4 years are held to account.

Somkid included.
