Hapless temple donation box thief rounded up in Pathum Thani

A former security guard was arrested in Pathum Thani yesterday after he was caught on CCTV prising open a donation box at Wat Sichompoo in Klong Luang.

 

The CCTV footage from Thursday made it relatively easy for the cops to get their man and he was rounded up nearby along with his pink Honda Scoopy-i getaway vehicle.

 

Arrested was Nipphon, 37 who hails from Trat in Thailand's west.

 

He said he got 1,200 baht from the box and no idea he would be caught on CCTV.

 

He said he lives with his wife and child. Five months ago he lost his job as a security guard and his wife only gave him 10 or 20 baht a day before she went off to work.

 

They had visited the temple and he had seen the box so he thought that was the answer to his immediate money problems. 

 

Sanook called him "jone kik kock" in their headline - this roughly translates as "inferior robber".
