CHIAGN RAI, 14th July 2018 (NNT) – Paul Robilliard, Australian Ambassador to Thailand, has presented a gift to former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn in celebration of the successful rescue of 12 boys and their football coach trapped inside Tham Luang Nang Non Cave for more than a fortnight.

Thanking Narongsak for allowing Australia to be a part of the historic rescue, Mr. Robilliard presented the former governor of Chiang Rai a t-shirt described as “Samart”. The shirt bears a symbol of Thai-Australian cooperation on its right sleeve and a black ribbon on its left to commemorate Sergeant Saman Kunan who lost his life helping to save members of the Wild Boar Academy football team. The back of the shirt reads “Never Give Up, Wild Boar Academy Team.”

The ambassador said the Tham Luang Cave rescue received support from all Thai people and millions of others around the world, while praising the coach of the 12 boys for his ability to keep the boys’ physical and mental health strong throughout a life-threatening ordeal.

In return, Narongsak who headed the operation thanked Australia for its support and assistance, proposing that a ‘lesson plan’ for the rescue be developed for future reference.

That was a good gesture from a non-Thai organisation. Well done.

OK, it's only' a T-shirt, but it's the thought that counts, and there again government officials are not allowed to accept high value gifts anyway.

& I think the Thai's would like one & the police cap

I wonder if they could help with getting his old job back. He couldn’t be corrupted so they demoted him to the governor of Phayao.

I hope he has the opportunity and support to carry this through.

Seems to me that in the first few days of the cave situation many people thought Khun Narongsak wan't doing much, wasn't focused.

By the time it was all over it seems that he was in there all along doing / supervising a lot of valuable discussion and analysis and excellent planning.

Well done.

I bet the PM is jealous now

True, put yourself in the buffoon's shoes.  He has done all he could do to marginalize the Shinawartes, make some hokey reforms and avoid debate and scrutiny.   Now some governor out of the blue, who was suppose to be demoted, is going to be in a Hollywood movie depicting a triumph in Thailand.  There is no way the unelected wet blanket could be happy right now.
