I've just received a new US passport by mail. Very unfortunately, I misplaced (binned) the notarized letter I'm supposed to give to immigration to get my nonb transferred into the new passport. To make things more fun, I have a flight from Surat Thani to BKK to Australia on the 27th.

A few people have recommended I fly with both passports - any Americans have recent experience doing this?

Any Americans have success transferring the visa without the letter?

How long does it take for immigration to actually transfer the visa, once I get get the letter? I can get a new copy of the letter in BKK in one day via their notary service. I don't mind going up there a couple days early, but I need to make sure it's done before the flight.

Thanks for any help,

With my retirement 'visa' submit in the morning collect the next morning.

Shouldn't be longer for non-B?

Immigration does not transfer visas, They only transfer stamps they have done.

If you actually have an extension of stay it depends upon the immigration office you use whether you will need the letter from the embassy or not. You could trying doing it without the letter.

If needed the embassy might send you another one by mail if you contacted them.

The letter is not needed when departing the country but they may not transfer everything in your old one to new one. If you have a valid re-entry permit or a visa you would have to use both passports on entry.

Just done stamps to a new UK Passport from photos of my lost one at Phitsanulok. 10 minutes while I waited, no charge.
