even though i live in thailand i must accept the fact that there is a reputation/ infamy reality about thailand and its association with sexpats and sexual deviants (pedophiles)

musk was just expounding on this, an already long established fact.   i dont feel personally slighted or defamed in the least.

So because I am a Brit it is OK to call me a lager lout...?

Good. It seems he is not as bulletproof from investors as might like to have thought. He really only has one option now, which is to climb down from his high horse and apologise for what was a needles

He is a caver not a diver.

Unsworth said he brought his knowledge about the cave to the rescue mission but added that he "no idea" what the diving conditions were like because he is not a cave diver.

Are you a Western guy living in Thailand ?

Musk has suggested that the only reason why you live in Thailand is because you are a pedo .

Do you find that to be acceptable ?

I don't know and neither do the Posters here. Might be... Might not be.

Nonsense , he's got a wife and kids . He does not fit the profile.

Musk probably just googled Thailand and think all of us are pedos for living here.

i am a westerner living in thailand.

imo the diver-musk escalation is akin to "bar stool banter" although seen publicly.   diver initiated the "stick sub up the arse" inference and musk expounded on bar stool banter.

Making pedo allegations isnt bar stool banter .

That is fighting talk

Perhaps you should do. Thailand is a sanook culture, very friendly and flirtatious, and income disparities here often see younger ladies seeking older foreign men, who for their own reasons (divorced or widowed perhaps) are more than happy to enjoy the attentions of younger more attractive women than they'd ever find back home. The fact that it's always been a promiscuous sort of place doesn't denote sexual deviance, just that it's a looser, freer part of the world. Some more uptight people in the west may disapprove of this, but they would have been the same types of people who disapproved of the sixties.

Thailand's saucy reputation is one that it's fine to take on the chin for expats here and roll with the punch - but it's way out of line to conflate this reputation with paedophilia. I'm fortunate never to have encountered anyone with such tendencies here, and I find it hard to believe it to be widespread. When paedophiles are caught here (as with any other place) they get the book thrown at them, you only have to read the other thread this week on the teacher who was caught to gauge the sentiments of other expats on this subject. Musk could have thrown just about any other insult in existence back at the British caver and it would have been small potatoes (even the c word would have been mild in comparison), but this particular piece of character defamation can't just be let go, and the stereotype should be consigned to history.

Musk could have said many other things besides 'pedo' but that's what he said. Whether that amounts to libel under US/California law given the totality of circumstances is another matter.

it seems income disparities and greed also fuel all types of exploitation including that seen with migrant labor. as long as i can recall there have been new stories about arrests for underage procurement and pedophilia both foreigners and nationals involved. one can assume a % get caught and the remaining % does not. it is a simple fact thailand is a country with a reputation for such as is pi and cambodia. if musk or whomever conflated that simple reality in a heated escalated exchange of words as i said it would enter one ear and exit the other.

now if someone told me my mother wears army boots that would be another story.

does the "c" word mean . cockney?

This is also true of many countries in the west. I may be wrong, and I don't live out in the sticks to see how things are there, but my sense is Thailand has substantially cleaned up this kind of thing compared to a few decades ago. Pedo is a disgusting slur and it should be challenged any time some idiot uses it.

The c word is at the extreme end of the spectrum of English swear words. Can't repeat it on here obviously, but since you mentioned cockney, berkeley hunt is the proper rhyming slang for it.

hey it could have been worse for EM...

hmm... any ideas how long we might wait until the Stocks price lowers enough, for us to pounce?

Berkeley Hunt is a centuries old fox and hounds hunt... Aside from the rhyming slang, its also the source of another much milder British insult, berk.

mini education in english slang

very interesting

so there are some academics here after all

thanks

Edited by atyclb

In normal usage the typical cockney slang wouldn't include the rhyming bit... So the Berkley hunt would usually only say "berkley".... hence the shortened version "berk"

In the same way, a "whistle" is a whistle and flute, meaning suit (of clothes).

The actual rhyming bit was superfluous.
