Tesla investors demand apology from Elon Musk for baselessly calling Thailand rescue diver a 'pedo'

Tesla investors are demanding an apology from Elon Musk after he branded a British cave diver who rescued children from a cave in Thailand a “pedo”.

 

The billionaire business magnate’s Twitter post sparked a huge backlash from shareholders in his firm, who later hit out further at Mr Musk in an open letter.

 

Mr Musk baselessly called the diver Vernon Unsworth a “pedo” in the social media rant before doubling down on the insult and eventually deleting the posts.

Good. It seems he is not as bulletproof from investors as might like to have thought. He really only has one option now, which is to climb down from his high horse and apologise for what was a needless and nasty comment.

This and his share price are two distinct issues not evenly closely related. Have a read of the article below that was written in March 2018;

The share price has been taking a hit.

 

Pedo comment shouldn't have been said.

The Diver is going to make a mint in court over slander charges. Musk could be short a few million but not that he would miss it

He is a caver not a diver.

Unsworth said he brought his knowledge about the cave to the rescue mission but added that he "no idea" what the diving conditions were like because he is not a cave diver.

That is a media mistake .

"caver" not so much

Follow the money.  Money talks.  Worried investors begin to duck for cover.

Even Reuters has been wrong calling him a caver, then diver, then caver. The quote above posted by holy cow cm is from a Reuters report last night.

Whether or not Musk realizes how much damage such a "pedo" comment could cause, it was an incredibly cheap but seriously damaging shot. He should have  immediately apologized well before Tesla investors got on his case.

If the so called investors are pedos themselves then this makes sense.

Otherwise it's crap.

Of course as we all know this is a sensitive question.

But to link a stock with this crap defies all sanity.

Diver and cave diver are very different. Same as car-licence driver vs HGV driver, maybe much more so! Vern never pretended to be a cave diver, but as a very experienced diver, and his knowledge of the cave, his opinion was more than welcome

Musk should be careful. He is getting the reputation as the Trump of the business world. Thin-skinned hot-tempered Twitter nut.

Tesla has 10 billion US$ liabilities and 1 billion US$ cash assets and productivity is not going as planned. Tesla shares started dropping long before the cave episode.

Musk seems to be in damage control mode on a number of fronts and that may explain his irrationality. He sounds like he would get on well with someone else we know.

Sorry for being behind the story, but where are the headlines that said, "Brit diver insulted Elon Musk for his attempt to help save people's lives?" Just sayin' people. Are you all so controlled by media?

I always thought Elon Musk was a smart guy, a pioneer, someone to look up to for his achievements and for his insight.  What was he thinking making such a baseless and mean-spirited remark like that, especially about someone who is widely regarded to be one of the real heros in the rescue? 

 

I'm sure his initial motive of offering to help with the rescue was largely a PR one.  Well, I guess you could say that's sure blown up in his face now!  HIs vicious remark was so incredibly negative where everything else related to the rescue efforts was so positive.  What a sad thing!

 

I've totally lost respect for him.

even though i live in thailand i must accept the fact that there is a reputation/ infamy reality about thailand and its association with sexpats and sexual deviants (pedophiles)

 

musk was just expounding on this, an already long established fact.   i dont feel personally slighted or defamed in the least.
