New York Times publisher says he chided Trump not to call press the enemy

by Phil McCausland

"I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence," Sulzberger said.

President Donald Trump and New York Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger issued very different recollections Sunday of a July 20 meeting the two had at the White House, with the publisher saying he took the president to task for calling the press "the enemy of the people."

The accounts of what had been an off-the-record meeting emerged on Sunday after Trump tweeted about it.

"Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, 'Enemy of the People.' Sad!" the president tweeted.

Reminds me of school when I was a child. The school bullies played the victim card against anyone who stood up for themselves. Didn't work then and won't work now.

Finally, we have someone willing to call them out on a national scale. I love this guy!

Even if he lies to do it. The bigger the lie, the better!

Trump will never back down, he has issues.

No worries. The vast majority will deny they ever supported him and the rest we can send to de-"trump"-ifcation holiday farming camps. ??

Threats against journalists are one thing. Trump is opening a door that will mean threats against elected officials.

Trump is right again? Again? You mean he was right some other time?

The MSM is an enemy of the people supporting Trump. The truth is terrifying to Trump and his sheeple.

"trump" acts as a dictator. When he says enemy of the people it just means they are critical of him personally. Fox flatters him constantly so they are a friend of the people in bizarro "trump" world.

The media in the US has become a disgrace.

The real enemy of the people is Donald Trump who refuses to believe his own intelligence agencies indicating the Russia has interfered in the American election. Trump constantly lies, distorts the facts and is completely incompetent. Don't be fooled by reports of a great American economy. Yes, growth is there but it is growth in industries that pay low wages. Yes, there was a tax cut but the average person got about $3.00 extra per week and America has a Trillion dollar deficit for the year most of which will be funded by the Chinese.

This is not the America I grew up in and it is not the America you want for your children. I want a President that tells the truth; brings people together not apart; and establishes a real economic future for its citizens.

Trump does none of the above and he is the true enemy of the majority of Americans/

Well, I guess they've been tainted by reporting on a disgraceful POTUS.

Mrs Clinton would have been a much better President than the likes of  Trump

- Trump is reviled by most of the World. Mrs Clinton would have been applauded because she would never denigrate an ally in public.

-There would have been no mocking of the disabled; speaking in public using invective; taking actions which are considered racist.

-There would not be Trillion Dollar deficit this year from a worthless tax cut and a budget that is completely irresponsible.

-There would have been a reform of medical care setting the stage for Medicare for everyone which is National Health Care instead of Trump trying to pass the end of Obamacare with a replacement that would throw millions off the healthcare roles

-There would have been a real relationship between Russia and the United States based upon stopping Russia from trying to interfere in American elections instead of being the lapdog of Putin.

I won't replay the election- Trump is President but his tenure is getting shorter with revelations of his violation of the Us Constitution through lies and making profit off the Presidency.

Amazing how many people are willing to sell America for a few dollars.

Note the BS in his name. He's certainly living up to it.

Sure, when he said the polls were wrong about the election.

For Trump and his supporters most all mass media is the enemy. The USA is in new political territory since he was elected and the democrats won't let it go. Always before it was a "let's come together" after the election, not this time and never again.

As long as the tangerine tornado refuses to take his medications, these kinds of problems will manifest themselves daily. Each lie is bigger than  the next. Anything to avoid taking responsibility for the problems he has created. Making the press the enemy of the people is the beginning of authoritarian rule. Why his supporters cannot see that is beyond my comprehension. He is, and remains the most dangerous man on the planet.

Clearly "off-the-record", which the White House insisted upon prior to this meeting, means something different to Trump?

Now, a clearly brighter person, Sulzberger, is free to share all the details of the meeting.

Trump’s battle with the New York Times and A.G. Sulzberger, explained

The latest chapter of Donald Trump versus the media unfolded over the weekend in the form of a back-and-forth between the president and the New York Times. The subject: an off-the-record meeting between Trump and the Times’s publisher, A.G. Sulzberger, that the president put on the record with a tweet.

On Sunday morning, Trump tweeted that he’d had a “very good and interesting meeting” at the White House with Sulzberger. He said they talked about the “vast amounts of Fake News being put out with the media” and again referred to the press as the “enemy of the people.”

Not gonna lie, that's a pretty funny illustration.

We'll agree to put a couple of those around his arms but we also get to put a cone around Maxine Waters head ?
