Pheu Thai’s outspoken Pichai summoned by police

Pichai Naripthaphan, a former energy minister and a member of the Pheu Thai Party’s economic team, has been summoned to report to the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) police tomorrow.

 

Mr Pichai said that he received a TCSD summons on Wednesday morning. The TCSD issued the summons on July 26 after receiving a complaint from Col Burin Thongprapai, a legal officer of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), accusing him of posting a false statement on the computer in a way that may cause damage to national security and economy or panic among the people.

 

He said so far he has received 11 summonses. Eight were NCPO summonses for him to undergo an “attitude adjustment” session and the three others were from police on various charges. Following the 7th summons, he was detained for seven days, Mr Pichai said.

If the PTP wins and IF they do the following as stated in the article

 

If the Pheu Thai Party won the election and formed a government, it would amend the Computer Act to prevent it from being used as a polical tool to restrict the people’s honest rights and freedom of expression, he said.

 

Then they would have my full support on that issue, too bad they never want to do the same with the defamation laws. Now that would be a great improvement. Too bad they too like that law a lot.

Mind you, any nation that insists grade schoolers pledge allegiance to an ideal,  good,  bad or indifferent, is also guilty.

If you remember, when in power, they talked about it being illegal to criticize them on social media, and even illegal to like a post that was deemed critical. A Pol Gen Pisit IIRC made the announcement. But they backed down quickly. 

 

The only changes they'd make would be ones to benefit themselves.

Of course. As they're owned and rules by a criminal fugitive who openly dictates policy contrary to the law they are going to be.

Agreed.  States almost never relinquish this sort of power once it's in law.

Yes that is what i suspect, the PTP is not known for its freedom of speech either. That is why i said IF.. first have to see it then ill believe it. But i certainly wont hold my breath.

Care to take a bet with me to see if they amend this or not. If not you promise to remove your red glasses ? I will fully support any move they make on that front. But if they were so concerned about freedom of speech why have then never touched the defamation laws. These are normally only used against the poor.

 

So I would really like it if they amended this I would support them on that issue.. but I don't think they will, its more likely they will use it to go after their enemies, just like the junta does.

He won't.. any post against the PTP means your automatically pro junta. Its hard for him to understand you can be against both of them.

In the other journal I read that they also filed a complaint against Thanathorn from Future Forward for the same reason. It seems they are starting to set standards for the election campaign, during which no criticism of the Junta will allowed.

Yes just read that too, crazy but if he has proof to back his claims up he will probably be ok. I like the future forward party (though it stated its not a party yet). The charge is that he was giving out false information about the MP's switching sides. If he can back his claims up its no longer false information.

Well, even from an opportunistic point of view, it would make sense:

- the dominantly yellow courts are not likely to convict their opponents,

- and most of all, IF the Junta allows them to govern, it is very likely that it will not be long before they are impeached by the Senate, for whatever reason, i.e. for not applying a vaguely defined strategic plan or because of another trap set in the constitution.

Such as a testimonial from a corrupt politician who will explain he was approached and offered not to be indicted for his corrupt behaviour! ?

I think its far more likely they will get disbanded because of Thaksins inability to step away from the spotlight and do his dealings with the PTP in secret. Remember there is a new law in place for outside influences. So no need to impeach them or kick them out for something else when all they have to do is watch and observe Thaksin his meetings with the PTP.

Good point but that means that those PTP politicians are corrupt.. it cant.. be.. it cant.. i would never have imagined that ?

But really if you bring out news like this in the world you better be able to backup your claims. (not that I don't believe it but one needs to have evidence to back up claims)

The timing of such a disbandment will be critical. It has to be close enough to the election to prevent any effective reincarnation, yet obviously not after the election has been called, because that would be seen as interfering with the electoral process, and that would never do.

 

A tricky balancing act, but with the glittering prize of effectively disenfranchising a vast swathe of the country, both geographically and demographically. A swathe which is incorrigibly opposed to the cabal which seeks to confirm their grip on power, and one which will keep voting for the " bad people".

 

Still, I expect that some of the brightest minds at the Staff College are working on it.
