William C F Pierce
Thais being honest with their numbers at last or have they finally learnt to count. Only 73 out of a target of 75. Should congratulate the officer on his maths skills. Nearly as educated as the Prime Minister. In 12 years I have never been stopped in Thailand. Two years ago I got lost in Kiev in the Ukraine and asked a couple of policemen the way. They immediately wanted to check my passport, which was OK. Then they offered me a lift back to my hotel. A much better service than Uber and it was free.

steveyinasia
Always a big fan fare over these findings, how about doing a better job at taking out corruption....oh that would mean cleaning up the most corrupt first and there would br no one left to arrest the others. Popular Post 3421abc
I can't believe these bozos hold a press conference to announce such a important matter. Is the crime rate in Thailand that low that they have to put all these resources in hunting visa overstayers? I wonder if the Thai population cares about this. 3

Popular Post Old Croc
I note that some of the British on this forum are already trying to downplay the actions of one of their own by belittling his breach of the law. He figuratively gave Thailand his middle finger by deciding the rules didn't apply to him and overstayed by nearly three years. It wasn't an illness or memory slip that precipitated his lengthy overstay, it was a deliberate decision for reasons unclear to the observer. He's 53, which means he was eligible to apply for a retirement extension before he became illegal. Why didn't he? No money, a criminal background, or just couldn't be stuffed following the rules of the country? He's almost certainly been working at the expense of a local (If he's the one I'm thinking of, his job could have been a Thais. I won't expand because I might have the wrong person in mind) As someone who's made this country his home (however tenuous) and jumped through all the financial and reporting hoops, I feel only delight that another who has helped create those hoops will now find the next part of his life very uncomfortable. twig
What a horrific crime! An old man and other great apes crossed an imaginary line drawn by two armed gangs of other great apes in brown shirts, AND STAYED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE IMAGINARY LINE WITHOUT PAYING TO ONE OF THE BROWN-SHIRT GANGS FOR MORE THAN 1000 REVOLUTIONS OF THIS PLANET!!! This is an outrage! Only stray dogs, and other lesser animals or apes should be allowed to cross imaginary lines throughout the jungles without permission or consequences! The apes of the sheeple species, simply cannot be allowed to cross imaginary lines without paying brown-shirted sheeple apes for it! The dangerous consequences of such unspeakable crimes are simply too great to contemplate! 1 1 2

Thought it may be to look after the welfare of tourists and deal with crimes committed against tourists. Silly me. Taking illegals out of the tourist swamp does benefit the welfare of legal tourists--and remember, even those of us with long-term visas are no better than tourists.
