EC begins preparations for general election

BANGKOK, 3 August 2018 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has held a meeting on election campaigning via social media, with its successors to ensure continuity of the work while the deputy prime minister for legal affairs has pointed out current EC members can continue as election inspectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreaungam has indicated the law allows for the current EC to setup polls across all 77 provinces and hand over the completed work to a new panel of commissioners and noted his belief the process would not be problematic.

EC Secretary-General Pol Col Jarungwit Phumma, stated that the EC office is ready for the new commissioners, who will be considering regulations for the election of Members of Parliament and Senators once they assume their roles. He said his panel is adjusting its draft review commission for greater efficiency, and making other preparations for the transition such as selecting election inspectors and putting them before public opinion. He added that the new EC will have full discretion to remove any inspectors it deems unfit.

On the Democrat Party’s concerns about campaigning via social media, the EC Secretary-General said a meeting with relevant agencies will take place on August 22 to discuss the parameters of social media use by candidates. A focus of the meeting will be the issue of mud-slinging via social networks.

Another meeting with party representatives on election expenses is also to take place.

Just making up rules as the election date progresses?

Already this is an exception to selecting election inspectors and putting them before public opinion.

No one hearing or bother to hear. ??

'A focus of the social media meeting will be mudslinging ...'

In other words, you can say anything you like on social media, absolutely anything - so long as it does not seem even the teeniest weeniest bit negative about the great junta and its supreme leader.

Apart from that - you can say anything you like. Complete freedom. Oh - but do remember the Computer Crimes Act and that other certain Law, and all the other laws and edicts put in place in perpetuity by the 20-year plan of the glorious junta ...

You are completely right: it will be a farce.

The terrible thing is that after his (inevitable) appointment as new 'democratically elected' leader, Prayut will feel that at last he has got legitimacy - and then he can do whatever he wants with impunity (as now). But he will be even more emboldened by his (fake) 'legitimacy'.

Oh my! Let's hope the Thais will have something to say about all this when it happens (as it obviously will) ...

That's nice

You know I honestly believe is that Thais people don't care a lot about their country, education, lifestyle, freedom of speech. You know and I know if the governments of Australia, England, wherever they have free democratic governments are put there by the voters and if they don't do the will of the people then these governments will be out on their ears next election. That is because the voters do care what sort of country they want  Here I am convinced they don't care as long as they have food alcohol roof over their heads life goes on and don't have to work. The Thais have definitely got it wrong with governments The government are put into place to serve the people but here the people serve the government

Looking at the guys face talking he is not even thinking about the election or even Thailand He would be thinking has he got enough money stashed away in a Swiss bank account so he can retire in luxury.

I would vote for mud-slinging via social networks party for their creatable policies ?
