BANGKOK, 4th August 2018 (NNT) – The government has launched a probe into an allegation that 940,000 tons of pledged rice is missing following an uproar among social media users calling for responsible officers to be held accountable.

Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Adul Chotinisakorn said the investigation has been assigned to the Office of the Auditor General of Thailand.

Rice bought under the rice-pledging scheme by the previous administration totaled 18.7 million tons, but inspections carried out by the Ministry of Commerce found only 17.76 million tons in stock.

The storage of pledged rice has been overseen by the Public Warehouse Organization and the Marketing Organization for Farmers.

Adul expects the investigation to conclude before the end of September, adding that the missing rice could be the result of miscalculation.

Since taking office, he said the current government has been able to sell 16.84 million tons of rice for 145.86 billion baht while the remaining 70,000 tons will be auctioned off some time this month.

Too easy, like shooting fish in a bucket for the elite. Robin Hood and Ned Kelly would NOT be impressed!

But as Ned would say, "such is life"

They really need to go back to using the abacus

when dots are used in caculations it is amazing how many people get it wrong.

testing of the counters mathematical skills would be front and center.

Only the other day some bank transfer dots were put in the wrong place and the lucky lady had all of a sudden 20 odd million in her account, she was honest and reported to the bank, but the Kiwi couple who had 7-9 million I can not remember the exact amount, well they with drew and went on a mad spending holiday trip,

pursued by the law,

so how does one lose so many bags of rice , maybe it just was not there,

They should have inspected the trunk of Yingluck's escape car...

Any news of a disastrous surplus of rice in the UK yet?

Just look at the amount that was paid out. Divide that by the 15,000 baht per tonne paid and

that will tell you how much should be in storage, minus what you have already sold and have

shipped out.

This investigation would be the third (fourth?) rice audit since the junta took over the government. If more rice is found missing it must be due to the lack of proper oversight and controls by the Prayut government. That was the very same blame placed on the Yingluck regime after the junta's first rice audit.

I think that is what the OP is saying, that this rice disappeared after the current rulers took over, but I'm sure all will be just a misunderstanding in a few days from now.

Similar report to that of NACC investigating minister with innumerable watches.
