Thai businesses to revitalize Pattaya tourism via economic zone

Improvements in infrastructure and connectivity expected to boost number of tourists

BANGKOK -- Thai businesses are planning to revitalize the well-known eastern resort city of Pattaya by tapping into the country's Eastern Economic Corridor special economic zone, with the area expected to undergo a massive improvement in infrastructure.

 

The EEC is centered around the development of advanced technology in industries such as aviation and automation. Investment funds totaling more than 1.5 trillion baht ($45 billion) are to flow into infrastructure projects -- from airports and deep-sea ports to high-speed railways and roads -- dramatically improving the area's connectivity.

 

"The EEC connectivity, the U-Tapao airport and the high-speed train that links major three airports will make Pattaya the heart of the eastern cities," Kalin Sarasin, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, told the Nikkei Asian Review. "Plenty of attractions in the area will lure lot more foreign and domestic tourists in the future."

Now the worst things getting startet , that kills Pattaya

Those tourists walking in the Pattaya beach waters will need to disinfect themselves later in their room. I hope they do to avoid the dreadful contagious diseases they might pick up from the filth that flows out of the sewage overflow pipes into the bay.

Looking at the money disbursement map not a single baht is going to actually clean up Pattaya's sewage or other infrastructure issues.  

 

Laem Chabang appears to be the big winner here.

3. 1.5 trillion baht in infrastructure.

4. New airports.

5. High speed rail lines.

6. New roads.

7. Improved connectivity.

Who can possibly believe this garbage? They have achieved nothing in four years. They simply do not have the ability to pull it off. Plus they are no longer self reliant on energy to be able to do it. They have to rely on the dodgy Laos power supply which will be their downfall.

The (Chinese?) tourists in the photo are walking from their boat to Beach Road, where they will have a coach waiting; engine running; to take them to their next destination. This is somewhat removed from the vision laid out in the OP, but is the here and now and probably more of the same in years ahead.

they are not tourists. they are Beach Road freelancers taking a quick rinse.

Don't worry, in the new revitalized pattaya they will make public showers at the beach everywhere...also low taps to wash your feet. 

 

 

If they want to attract tourist they could pick a few off this list;

Propper drainage to prevent flooding

Effective traffic control

Sidewalks that can be used by humans

City planning

Enforced safety on tourist traps like boats, rides and hotels

Professional policing

 

 

I'm sure there are plenty more for the list.

For Thai Chamber of Commerce.......read.......Thai Centre of Corruption............This is all just hot air with another opportunity to feed from the trough. Put the money into the infrastructure of Pattaya itself, and it just might make a difference......

In total just another feed of.......

Fix the flooding first then sort out the airports/roads.

They have achieved a huge amount of infastructure nationwide.. Massive so that blows you into the dirty water of Pattaya.

The elephant: proper sewage treatment plant (heck, even improper would be improvement). Guess it never crosses their alleged minds that a seaside resort should include a sea that isn't a toilet

The tourists in the photo came to Pattaya in a bus driven directly from China, they got off the bus, into a boat taken to the parachute rubbish off the coast, parachuted, then came back to the beach, boarded the bus and went to the next destination, which is the fake floating market off Sukhumvit on the way to the NongNuch tropical gardens for the morning Thai culture show, all prepaid.

I simply don't see the connection between a project to move industrial goods and an increased tourism in Pattaya.  Sounds more like a lot of hot air that will be used to justify year-end bonuses for upper level management in the industrial and government sectors.

    Private industry is already doing its part in making Pattaya attractive for tourists--and expats.  Local government, and national now with the EEC, have shown themselves to be totally inept in making the infrastructure improvements that are needed a lot more than what they are planning to spend the EEC budget on.  As others have mentioned, start with sewer improvements before anything else.  Then sidewalks, local roads, and public transportation.  Pity a good sewer system doesn't have the same wow factor as a high-speed train, but would be much more useful.

economic zone.  is that separate from the safety zone and the jet ski scam zone and the ladyboy pickpocket zone?  or are they all kind of mixed in together?

I first visited Thailand in the mid 1990's and they were talking about these things then! I wouldn't hold your breath that any of these projects will happen in our lifetimes - if at all. Just more propogandist nonsense from the Thais.

Nearly correct , after the parachute ride , they go onto Koh Larn , for a sit down , 2 hours eating in a prepaid Chinese owned beach restaurant. And a splash about .. then back to the beach road to collect from coach . Possibly a trip on said coach to pratumnak Hill to see the Buddha, or Chinese temple . Carnage . As I live on the hill .. 

Looks like Pattaya is going into the history book if this economic zone is there.

No, that won't kill Pattaya. Farangs will simply not be the "masters of Pattaya", they won't be needed anymore.

By tourist attractions do they mean the variety of turd species floating at the beach.

Does it means that Pattaya Condo owners will become Euro millionaires? 

All smoke and mirrors!  everything on the surface while the shit still flows into the sea! No master plan to improve the roads and how the traffic flows.  no plans to built new and larger plants to clean the water,  no plans to built better electrical grid systems, no plans to improve the drainage system to capture the water instead of dumping it into empty land and into the sea, no plans to improve and fund a totally free education system regardless of household size. 

A leadership that continues to line their pockets at the expense of the Thai people instead of improving their standard of living.

Sad, a fail government!
