BANGKOK, 8th August 2018 (NNT) – The cabinet on Tuesday (Aug 7th) has approved the Higher Education Act.

The Education Minister, Clin. Prof. Udom Kachintorn, said the approval of the Higher Education Act would lead to the establishment of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. He said the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is expected endorse its establishment by this November, because the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, fully supports the plan.

The new ministry is aimed at supporting the implementation of the government's Thailand 4.0 policy and promote all targeted industries detailed in the 20-year national strategy.

This ministry would also facilitate the introduction of new personnel with skills and abilities that match Thailand's demands of new industries for more research and knowledge.

I'd hazard a guess that the way the funding for education seems to work, it's probably a hire chair.

Maybe some borrowed (from deceased friends) chairs ?

Thailand 4.0 = Technocracy

... you might want to Google it and see for yourself what it means, where it comes from and who

is the institution that wants it implemented !

[Just a hint: it's not a Thai Idea !!!]

Behind my apartment block is a huge construction site. Could it be they realise the long-cherished plans to build the new campus of the University of Fruit Carving?

Yet again we hear more blah, blah, blah about the implementation Thailand's 4.0 policy.

Has there been any announcement yet of when it is going to commence?

Industry 4.0 is the fourth industrial revolution but it looks like Thailand will be left talking about it for the next 20 years while other Asian developing countries just pass them by.

Only the other day Vietnam announced a record 7 month foreign investment of US$17 billion from countries such as Japan, South Korea and Singapore. I wonder why they chose Vietnam rather than Thailand? A junta government perhaps or the lack of suitably qualified and skilled young people?

Well that's nice they are sorting out the Higher Education Act.

Can't have them slacking or falling behind can we now.

But looks like some,  maybe can keep up better than others  :cheesy:

Maybe I just mixed the Acts up.

Until they get a solid foundation of basic education, higher education is a waste of time.  Well, unless they are planning on opening the Cheech and Chong University of Ganja.

And my guess is that many students and professors are hoping all universities / all faculties etc., will come under the new ministry.

Under the current OHEC management most, if not all, Thai universities are going backwards with massive administration problems and complications preventing them from opening / re-opening courses.

Bottom line OHEC gets very severely scolded by you know who for the poor and falling rankings of Thai universities so then they introduce administrative policies / regulations which are totally unworkable and which cause massive complex problems for current students, new students and smooth university administration.

"This ministry would also facilitate the introduction of new personnel with skills and abilities that match Thailand's demands of new industries for more research and knowledge."

That pretty much eliminates most personnel who were trained and "educated" in Thailand's antiquated system of rote memory, and never taught how to evaluate or anything pertaining to  sequential thought. All they will be able to do is teach students to memorize and regurgitate whatever the teacher says and writes. One way to overcome this is to eliminate the antiquated employment system which prevents educated foreigners from teaching in most public education venues.

Thailand's education system is a total failure. And it starts from kindergarten education and flows through to university education where the degree certificates are virtually worthless.

Foreign investors are not stupid and are well aware that Thai students are mostly dumbos and apart from some exceptions can do little more than simple clerical jobs.

But they are excellent at social intercourse on smart phones. Thailand 4.0.

Got the sandwich but I had no filling? Lovely blue jacket; is that Santa on his lapel, my eyes a going on me. Just thought I would support TV ad policy. Seems a nice girl, may give some insight into the education plan.
