Hello,

I'd like to have certificate of residence for my motorbike and driver license.

I just called Surat Thani immigration. And as they said if I don't have work permit I can't get certificate of residence from immigration. I have Non-B visa and I'm waiting my work permit.

Really I can't get certificate of residence from immigration with Non-B visa? As I read on internet if we don't have work permit we can get certificate of residence with 2 photos, TM30 form etc. so if someone not have work permit can't have Thai driver or motorbike license? Or immigration just lazy?

What should I have to do? Thank you!

Do you have a permanent address and signed lease agreement?

Has your landlord reported your address to immigration?

No they don't. Am I need that documents?

Depends on what country you a from, you can get it from the embassy, i got mine like this in 30 minutes and it did cost me nothing.

If the immigration told you this, i am sure there is no way around excepted maybe for some tea money

Are you sure they understood what you were asking about. It seems they might of thought you were asking about a residence certificate that those on permanent residency get.

It makes no sense that you need a work permit to get a certificate of residency since it is not needed if you have a work permit. You can can use a work permit to get a driver's license and to register a vehicle.

I nearly shelled out money I did not need to. When a falang is selling a car, he needs a certificate of residence as part of the paperwork. Please don't ask me why.

Anyway, I found the immigration certificate is not needed - a letter certificate from the condo is sufficient.

If you plan to get car and motorbike driving license you probably need 2 certificate of residence, so you need 3 or maybe 4 photos

Is there a photocopier and a camera for photographs at the new Immigration office in Ubon or must I already have these with me?
Sirindihorn or the one here in the city?
Nothing at Sirindihorn.
Copies nearby the office at the city office. No photo shops nearby I am aware of.

By “new” I meant the one in the city. So basically I need to go already prepared

In Buengkan we need to get a letter from the Land Transportation Office to the Immigration Office, in order to get a Certificate of Residence from Immigration. That is for getting a DL or register car or motorbike. It might be different from province to province, who knows.

Suratthani immigration does not want your TM30.

They want you to register online, I have done it myself, no need to get landlord involved.

If everything else fails pop over to Samui and immigration in Maenam will make a certificate for 500 baht.

Am I have to register from this link?

If you get stuffed around trying to get drivers licence.  Get an international driver permit from your own country.  Easy to do online.

You must have your own country's licence first though.  If not you have to battle on the Thai way.

No, but it's a requirement for dealing with the immigration for non tourists.

No use if you stay longer than three months, after that you need a Thai license.
