The planned changes follow the event suffering low viewing figures this year

The Oscars have announced a new category aiming to celebrate popular film, along with more changes for future ceremonies.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the 2018 Academy Awards were the least-watched in history. Viewing figures are said to have dropped 19 percent from 2017, with an average of 26.5 million tuning in. Last year saw an average of 32.9 million viewers.

I never bother with "award" shows so I've not watched the Oscars, ever. But the new, improved, "condensed" version is three hours? How long was the last one?

Any surprise the viewing figures are down when many struggle to get through a feature-length movie these days?

The best thing they could do is to cancel the lot of these dress up dinners, they are nothing more than PR stunts and bad ones at that. I dont watch any of them and I never will. WHO CARES.!!!
